SCOTIA ON THE WEEKEND
17 years 1 week ago
Good morning to the CLAN and looking forward to the weekend, been a hectic week.
Must say spent the last couple of days in a very dusty factory trying to arrange a stock take and keep custom officials happy, bloody nightmare and before that I was putting my winnings from last week on my only bet for the week, a horse called Cappoquin, so things can only get better. So T.G.I.F. and can hope for a good punting and social weekend. Great racing from Scottsville.
Will be at the big T on Sat. with the German theme, not sure how I can improvise with my Yorkshire pudding, managed the first 2 weeks, with the Yorkshire vindaloo and last week Yorkshire con carne, maybe stick a sausage in the Yorkie, "Adolf in the hole", anyway one the subject of sauerkraut, had a couple of German visitors last week and they were worried sick about the xenophobic outbreaks and we were stopped by army personnel and I told them to speak Afrikaans and not sound like immigrants, they turned white and speechless, very little sense of humour!
I keep catching the show "you be the judge" on and off, and have read the extensive posts on the site, some superb contributions, but can hardly call it a cut and dry outcome. I must just add that it shows you what interest there is for our beloved sport.
I initially thought that it was going to be a well rehearsed bit of window dressing and the topic was a fairly "soft" subject, but I was impressed with the show and levels of interest generated, especially on the ABC Forum, to me this is what its all about and look forward to some first class entertainment and debates.
I am not sure what other topics are on the menu? but "2nd Channel/Tellytrack programming"," prize money vs owning a horse"," getting people back to the track"," tote vs bookies [not forgetting exchanges]","intellectual property of the horse vs sponsorship, appearance money", should all make for good viewing and I am a fan of Neil Andrews and a good choice to anchor the show.
On the racing front, I feel Ascot has lost a bit sparkle with the non appearance of Sun Classique and Sacred Kingdom, but we have the Derby and Oaks next week, but not easy to find the winners, however the Coronation Cup should go to the superstar Gateway, who incidentally is the current Arc favourite.
War Artist could run at Ascot and must have an e.w. chance?
We might see Sun Classique in the King George?, where again Getaway is current fav.
So plenty racing to come, but have to take the officials to a wonderful African experience for lunch, have found this restaurant that looks like the palace of the lost city stuck in the middle of a location, which I have become a member, more info on this wonderful experience next week and a visit to my favourite Afrikaans pub with easygoer tonight on which I hope will be a multi-cultural weekend for scotia.
Good punting and may your God be with you.
