Hearing Billy Prestage is considering taking outside horses. Anyone know whether that's true? Always thought he only trained his own horses

Very much doubt that. Billy marches to the beat of his own drum. He certainly does not need the money!

Wow.
Would be very interesting if true.
As Raceover says, Mr Prestage does march to his own drum. Buys and trains all his horses himself. And often gets some really decent sorts too. Respect.
I begged him to take a horse for me many years ago, but he (very kindly, but firmly) said no.
Would love to see what he might do with a bigger string....

Old school character and horseman of note. Unaffected by hype and bullshit, he just gets the best out of any horse, has a good eye when buying and doesn't throw his chequebook at horses.
A privelege to know him from my visits to the Cape.

Billy is one of the very best trainers ever. Looks after his horses magnificently.

You would think that it is in the interest of the race course owners to have as many trainers as possible and as much diversity as possible to make races as interesting as possible to gamblers, but they let big yards grow till they are obese and that squeezes out normal sized yards.
Even 20 years ago smaller yards had a chance to at least get runners into graded races regularly. Now on average they don't have any fire power, or they risk merit ratings which set the horse back half a year.

I see MDK is thinking about having a Satelite yard also, joining Tarry and Azzie
one way of making trainers enter horses
