TBA new race conditions
8 years 11 months ago - 8 years 11 months ago
It is great that new innovations are being considered, however I am not to sure how much consideration was given to this format before approving it. If I were in charge of the TBA then I would do things exactly the opposite. The current format penalises the buyers of the more expensive horses and rewards those buying the cheapies. Is this what these guys want to promote?

Winning a big lump for a small outlay are the things dreams and good news articles are made of?

Bob that is only one side of the coin. Imagine you are a big buyer at the sale and you get beat because of the price that you paid for a horse because it carried more weight? Surely the loyal big customers should be advantaged not disadvantaged? It is just a thought, I am not a customer but surely sound business principals say look after all your customers but look after the bigger ones a bit more?
To illustrate my point - should Louis the King and Abashiri have been on this sale, LtK would have a significant weight advantage over Abashiri. Can you imagine the toys being thrown if LtK won a shd

Have to agree 1000%
It is an ass about face model !!
So if you a go the extra rands,(and you are lucky enough for your purchase to be worth the stretch),then
a)you will be disadvantaged in the restricted race....and
b)the handicapper will dumb it down to average after 1 win, for ordinary racing, anyway
............brilliant...sounds like a blonde joke! :silly:

Buy a horse for 1.5m are you wanting him to only be good enough to run in a sales race?

I definitely wouldn't want him to be under sufferance to a 20k purchase

No , but with our system it will be handicapped to deadheat with a cheapie in almost all other races ......so why spend the extra?
Your question also ignores the point of sales races!!!!!

this has to be the only country where you have to pick one race for your horse to win a season and then race it to loose prior to that so it can win its preferred race. honestly we had horses having prep runs in 1 million rand races so they dont get a penalty then Legal eagle gets scratched and the race under sufferance. Just doesnt make sense what these clowns do. a horse like black arthur could have won the daily news and still carried the same weight in the July. honestly if a horse is not racing to win then its shouldnt race. how do we the punter supposed to know which horses are prepping and which are not. this sport has become worse than roulette atleast in roulette you know the ball has an equal chance of falling on every number
back to the july. my honest opinion these days the best horses dont win the july but the luckiest. more like a lottery. nothing against this years winner i backed it before the greyville 1900 @50s each way but that definitely was not the best horse in the race nor was it in the top 5 in my opinion. on his last 2 runs on form he honestly had no winning chance.
ok i drifted of the topic a bit. lol, take care clanners.
