But "muntu" just means a person?
However, "muntu" without the second "u" is derogatory.

The only people I have heard use the term without the "u" are Rhodesians. Here in SA the word including the u always has had a derogatory meaning in the circles I frequented.

So lets name a horse the k word and justify it by saying it means non-believer. I think not. The outcry that followed Brian Wiids horse, I forget the name, on religious grounds is a barometer. This name should be changed.

The word is harmless really. When Zulus and other similar dialects converse with each other they use the word " muntu " to refer to another person of their own kind.

However they will not refer to a person of another race as a " muntu ".It is common when we converse with an African to use the word "muntu " when enquiring whether someone named Robert or Nelson or Desmond is African?.

It would be a disgrace if this name was approved and used but I suppose that this is SA horse racing that we are talking about.
