90 Lots for sale at 18h00 this evening.
I have 4 for sale - all four are eligible for the CTS $million race in 2017.
Lot 44 colt Elusive Fort- Taking it Deep. Mare won 6, Gr3 placed. 5 foals to race , 3 winners, including a full sister to this one. Tall, scopey colt by a top sire.
lot 49: colt Windrush- Vintage Green. Mare a winning half sister to Gr 1 winner Young Harvest. 5 foals, 2 winners. Big strong colt.
Lot 68: colt Horse Chestnut- Dancing Empress. Mare a half sister to Gr 2 winner Dancing, herself the dam of multiple Gr 1 winner Zavite. From the family of Arc winner and sire Suave Dancer. $m race qualifier, from CTS Premier sale. 2 foals, both multiple placed. Full brother Imperial Dancer unlucky to still be a maiden after 6 second places. Very smart colt by successful sire.
Lot 89: colt Marchfield- Iberia. Mare 4 wins, dam of 2 to race, both winners. From the family of Wexford Boy, Gr 2 winner. By exciting new sire Marchfield, was leading freshman sire in Canada. Very nice colt.

Very tough sale for breeders. Low clearance rate, median (R35K)and average (R57k) very low. The message is clear- there are too many sales on our calendar, spread over far too long. Saturday night is also not a sensible time to have a horse sale. Lots of people there to party, not many serious buyers.
The quality of horse on offer was not the problem when compared to other secondary sales. Eg. 3 nice Silvano colts aggregate R500k- way below value.
My 4 all scored 8 or 8.5 /10 by the yearling panel last year.
Lot 44: bought back R70k
Lot 49: no bids
Lot 68: R110k sold. - one of the nicest colts on the sale.
Lot 89: R40k sold.

In my opinion this has nothing to do with the amount of sales. It has all to do about who is or is not present.

No Jooste
No van Niekerk
No Klawervlei

And most importantly no false sales to boost averages.

There cannot be an argument

The sale was poor Catalogue was weak Many fillies
At the end some horses were given to trainers and others sold for less than the minimum
bid of R10k
Sorry for some of the breeders but that is business

And yet it seems as if many breeders have the cash to invest in mares - witness CTS's mare sale in June - or perhaps a few of them had cash to spend and bought lots of mares
