Does anyone remember jockey H Vermaak who used to be stable jockey to Mrs Heming on the Highveld.
Wonder what happened to him?

Never heard of Sutherland, was he any good ?[/quote
Mark Sutherland was 2nd choice rider for the powerful Terence Millard yard and was in Felix Coetzee's shadow to put it crudely.
However he did get good rides from the stable and won the Durban July on the filly Tecla Bluff (Arg).
He was also aboard the good Mark Anthony although cannot recall if he rode the horse in The Queen's Plate and Met victories.
Mark Sutherland won the QP aboard Mark Anthony in 1987.
He also won the July aboard Right Prerogative in 1989 when the July was the only race raced on the day due to heavy rain.

Francois Wolfaardt...Sutherland was Millard's lightweight stable jock...hence he rode Right Prerogative to win the July...think he only carried 52kg.

Mark Sutherland won a feature race in Clairwood aboard a horse name Saturado. Miller had 2 horses in that race Felix & Mark rode his horses. Saturado set the pace and open a lead of over 20 lenghts, he won from start to finish. That was the best race I have watched.

You could be correct as that call does sound like Neil Duffy who hailed from Zimbabwe ?
Apparently he is in USA. Never liked his calls but then again in the Cape with the likes of Neil Andrews and Ryan Skelton doing makeshift calls after the Sandy Bickett drawls, he came out 2nd best to Jehanne Malherbe.
