I had a horse with my big bookie mate Louis and we had a top jock on the horse and we asked him to give the horse an easy first ride and not kill it.
It came 3rd in a 5 horse field, we asked him if u pushed could u have beaten the 2 in front?
He says yes I am sure but was not that confident about beating the 2 behind.

Tab News have been posting the comments usually a few days in advance
not sure if Frank Robinson wasnt available or didnt want to comment?
TBH not sure what value some of these comments add, the trainers can say "nice horse" because it`s true or they are not going to say it`s a slow midden
But if being a nice horse running over 800m shorter than ideal on debut, helps then great
First-timers: Greyville Friday 23 September
Frank Robinson: Race 1 – 3 COUP DE TONNERRE – no comment
Stuart Ferrie (assistant trainer Dennis Drier): Race 1 – 10 SAZERAC is a nice filly and has a Quartet chance.
Lizanne Forbes: Race 2 – 9 SOME SAY will need the experience.
Greg and Karen Anthony: Race 2 – 10 STORM HERO is a nice horse and is starting to come to hand now. He is working well but we would have preferred him making his debut over 1200m. He will need experience and might need the run.
Gareth van Zyl (assistant trainer Gavin van Zyl): Race 2 – 12 VENICE IN MAY is a nice horse and should be competitive.
Kom Naidoo: Race 3 – 10 OLD MONEY will need the run and is looking for further.

I am sure it's a great concept but above is a good example apart from the "educational run" bottom line is that do they actually know? We need a talking horse, just to know if the horse is fit is good enough we can read the form and if u have a special first timer u don't really want to share.

Had a few trainers tell me that they are pissed of with their names being tarnished at with holding information etc
What the one trainer told me was they are being phoned sometimes days in advance for publications to print and post at that time.
They have no objection to giving comments but are objecting to when..
Remember the Sporting Post, Gold Circle ,Tab news and us here at ABC have all got either people that work in the bookmaking industry are owned by bookmakers.

as i said above trainers are being asked 3 and 4 days in advance
CHARLES LAIRD:
Race 1 – RACE MASTER (13): Trainer Charles Laird feels it is way too early to give a comment on his runner and will comment closer to race day. We need to go to print before race day hence no comment.

I don't think trainers should comment on horses without the clear consent of the owner as well as clearing whatever comment with said owner.
If I could be more extreme, I believe this initiative (as we are calling it) should actually be directed at the owner, who can then cede authority to whoever he nominates to comment.
This may seem over the top but I argue not. Owning a horse is a thing you do in public and what those horses do, how they do it, and what your agents (trainers, mouthpieces, managers etc) do reflects back on you be you a Queen or what-what.
If I owned a powerful string of horses, I would not give Carte Blanche for people who speak for me and my horses to just piss in the wind as they like, to speculate or guess or whatever, to get it right sometimes or look an idiot the next. An what applies to a powerful string applies to my feeble little string.
It may well be for the good of the punter but that still doesn't mean the tail should wag the dog!
Thanks

I agree that any information recieved is a benefit no matter when it is given.
There should be no obligation to give "opinion", only factual information, and on the day should be sufficient. Yards that appear " honest" and are more public with information invariably will attract new owners more readily than the close lipped ones hoping to score off a rare first time winner that no one knows about.
Most of the "sure thing " first timers open at terrible prices as there are no secrets when it comes to yards.
All one should hope for is that a trainer gives an honest assessment of his horse at some point so the punter that does their homework can bear it in mind when placing a bet either on the day or for a future bet.

Hi guys the best way to describe on what we want from trainers/owners is by listening to any of justin snaiths coments on u.s.o or on raceday when interviewed he is forthcomming with all info amd most of the tym steers us in the right direction. My pet hate is wen the presenters dnt even bother to ask or maybe they do but let us know 2min before the race.

I see Tarry has said basically what I was saying
The websites and publications that are printing and posting are basically receiving the info 1st
Since most have bookmakers in association I can see the trainers point

20 years ago we (a few guys) used to win about R2 million per punt, in 8 months we won over R30 million, 400k at the time bought you a mansion in Bedfordview, anyone who disbelieves this can find out from the then 13 strong bookmakers who worked from Bruma, we had IOU's and PD's coming out of our ears, often we allowed some of the bookmakers to change the winning amounts on the tickets after the race had run because they most times layed us 5/1 or 4/1 and had to take back at 15/10 and sometimes they just stood the bet because they had no choice so the bookies could not afford to pay the full amounts, we allowed this because we appreciated the fact that they tried their best to accommodate us,
of all the punts only one was a first timer, a David Payne horse called Out Of The Dark, we got about 400k on at Bruma and about 200k elsewhere averaging about 7/2, bookies were bookies in those days, all this was done purely on form study, no info whatsoever, the first timer was easy because the form of the runners that had run was so poor that any useful first timer could beat them, info is overrated,,
we often punted horses where the trainer and jock never thought the horse could win and they would advise the owners not to bet, but when the horses shortened and won the connections were fighting with one another, the late Roy Curling done a deal with me to stop punting,, Fact,, not boasting just telling the facts,, nothing beats form study,, hence Formgrids,,
Computaform info is good but at a point more is needed so Formgrids was conceived to take study further,,
Stryker said "I use Computaform then when i need to go to the next level I go on to Formgrids", Vee Moodley said Quote "Formgrids takes handicapping a step further",, , i'm not advertising cause my 1000 plus visitors per day on Formgrids are regulars and I dont need to use any website to promote my site,, just sharing with players so you can see what can be achieved with correct form study,,
you DONT NEED info, in fact my rule 1 to 36 is block your ears, i am not saying that there are no professionals out there that know what they are doing because there are some who are very good at knowing results before they happen, but i'm saying that you as a punter can rise to any level you want, input equals output, i know the problem is time and I will soon hopefully put tools on Formgrids that shortcut this more for the player
