Yip, Devin won the Golden Slipper for ELvis and myself 2 years ago (great memories); not sure about King's Gambit temperament, if he is an easy ride, Devin will give him every chance; have to think though that the horse's style of running would make him unsuitable to the tight Greyville track; so I have some sympathy for Devin as he is in a no-win situation: if he wins, the horse will get the credit and if he loses, the jock will be blamed!

And by the way, Gavin has hurt his hand (according to Freeracer) and will be out of action for some 4 weeks.

i think the pace will be strong and the horse will find a run up the outside and make Devin look good - remember everyone shouting the odds about Gavin's ride before Gambit's first big win(myself included) - Lance is doing the right thing because if he gets another top jock and the horse wins he has a problem when Gavin comes back this way Devin already knows the situation is only temporary

Kings Gambit to win the Durban July !

Classic Oasis not in the race imo (Sorry Bravo); ridden superbly had a great run on a testing wet track in the Derby; would struggle to get away here, methinks. Russian Sage the right horse for both the 2000 and the July!
