Fourie and Snaith?
8 years 7 months ago - 8 years 7 months ago
Notice Bling riding the Snaith runners on the 26th and Fouries booked for rides for other yards.
I know the Snaiths do their bookings early, maybe RF couldn`t commit? or do we have another split?

Did mention that SK will be riding for JS long time coming.
Regarding RF he knows not what he wants these days but he will get rides for the stable

Unless there is a way to break into the Bass yard - doubtful with two good riders involved already, or the Kannemeyer stable (maybe but unlikely with Behr getting the rides in the Cape and Delpech/Ngwane in Kzn) the only other option is Crawford. Most jocks would love to be stable-rider for Snaith so the free-lance logic alludes me. Picking up one or two winning rides for other stables per week cannot compare with potential Grade 1 horses. Its like having access to an ATM card with ready cash and you rather spend your time buying scratch cards in the hope that you can win lunch money!

Snaith-Fourie combo have done well for each other , both previously and recently. I think the "grass is greener on the other side" view is less likely to be favourable for either of them although I'm sure they will both do ok.

Why should Fourie ride for Snaith when he does not get paid a retainer to be stable jockey for Snaith! He is freelancing and wanted to ride Smokey Affair on Saturday, and Snaith throws his toys out the cot again! If you want a jock to be stable jock pay him a retainer and come to a formal agreement instead of just expecting jockeys to be available for you when it suites you! By the way, I remember Snaith saying a while back that Khumalo will NEVER ride for him again...and now???!!! :S :S

I am not a jock but what I do know is that riding for a Snaith is like having a retainer anyway. No need for a retain fee.
It's almost like saying I will not race cars for Mercedes anymore and rather free lance and race Hyundai, Toyota or perhaps Ford.

That is besides the point Dean - if you want to retain a stable jock then the trainer should offer a retainer fee to keep that jock specifically to ride for his stable! That is the way it works in the industry. Same as me as a owner if I want to retain a jock to ride exclusively my horses, then I need to negotiate a retainer fee with the jock. It is irrelevant what quality horses he rides or how many winners he rides. Every jockey has a choice whether to be a stable / owner jock irrelevant of who he rides for. And every trainer / owner can offer a jock a retainer and formal agreement to have him ride their horses. Not everyone wants to drive a "Merc" especially if that "Merc" has such an unpredictable side to it that you may only be riding it for a week and then someone else becomes the new driver.
