Turffontein Night Racing blasted
8 years 5 months ago
I see Sporting Post has published a rant from MdK about the challenges of racing at Turffontein during the summer months. Personally I love night racing and hope that it continues.

I posted a prediction of abandonements before this season started(there is a post somewhere...and one on Sporting Post) .....stats don't lie!
History says that any more than 50% of scheduled races run in the height of summer is a bonus!
The suggestion stands ....night racing at Turf should be Sept/October and March-May!
-Nov /Dec/Jan has been a nightmare for years!
Its funny that racing is all about form yet the industry completely ignores the laws of probability when scheduling stuff!

The one problem that needs a mention in respect of meetings that are in danger of not being completed is the fact that operators take 100% take-out on bets that are only 40-50% complete,in the case of abandonment.
As we know, serious investors in exotics are screwed, in those circumstances!

Agree, they should consider a sliding scale of their take out in these circumstances based on number of completed legs

Bob it was Sun - Then a Huge cloud above, little rain , But lighting 15 km away . That was at 14h45. By then they already decided to cancel race 10 . Taken their Chop on all exotics including Quick Mix PA . Last Race 18h30 . Comment on TT , we done to all the authorities for keeping the show going. Yeah right 15km is half way to Heldeberg, and they are heroes.

Yes, couldnt help but smile at Al Cohen's comment ...."Accolades to "P" for keeping the Vaal meeting going ...and for only abandoning the night meeting on Tuesday at the last possible moment"
I wouldn't have thought that trying your best to race, when racing is your core business,is worthy of a medal ceremony!!!!

i agree with MDK. A total mess. no one at the track. poor pools. Rains all the time.
shows how little Phumelela actually knows or cares about SA racing.
fire the lot.
