TAB customers can bet virtually round the clock from Tuesday this week.

TAB, in conjunction with tabGOLD and Tellytrack, will offer live racing accompanied by live TV coverage from 4 o’clock every morning until 12.30 the following morning.

Australian racing will start the day at 4am followed by the normal mix of local and international racing through the day with races from the USA filling the late-night slots.

“Obviously the 4am to 12.30am schedule is dependent on the availability of suitability international product and inevitably there will be days when there is simply insufficient product to fill the schedule,” said Phumelela Betting Executive Vee Moodley.

TAB is looking to expand the live racing timeframe from 4am to 2am the following day, but is still in the process of sourcing suitable international product in order to provide betting opportunities 22 hours daily.

TAB will only operate commingled tote pools from 10pm to 10am in order to ensure that customers are betting into pools with critical mass. In addition to the live racing picture, Tellytrack will provide when available advice and tips from form experts in the relevant countries, as well as race predictors.

From 10am to 10pm TAB will continue to operate a combination of local and commingled pools.

Fields and tips for all race meetings on which TAB operates betting pools will be available on www.tabonline.co.za and Gold Circle’s www.tabgold.co.za websites.

“It’s an exciting step forward and the aim is to try and provide customers with betting opportunities and related live TV coverage whenever they may feel like betting,” said Tellytrack CEO Rob Scott.

 

Interesting......they weren't able to get staff to work on time for special "one off" early meetings in the past,so this will be a real management challenge .......something they have consistently lacked!

Rob, imvho, this will have very little to do with staffing as the number of flesh and blood individuals actually "working" will be minimal. I reckon it will be similar to all businesses, a night shift of essential personnel will be present, 99% of them will be IT related to ensure that the systems are functioning to enable online wagering. There will be no retail store activity as we all know the vast majority of totes close before the sun sets. One thing I will say, is dont make a mistake with your bets at 4am, they will stand :lol:

I agree but whether its staff or systems ,management is the key to competence.
(eg today ,needed to place bets early and at 9:30 the actual betting markets didn't reflect the scratchings yet-suggests whoever has the job ,doesn't give a shit or nobody has that specific task......and the examples are endless )
another example is that IT support and customer care staff seem to work office hours only,rather than during operating hours of Tab-online????(at least when I have phoned)..

(BTW Dave,I see your sudden pro-tote comments mean you are placing all your unlimited short priced bets on the tote now? :lol: )

Is there an actual demand from Punters wanting to bet at 4am?

Will totes be open at those times, I can not see that a Tote in dodgy areas like Nyanga, Mitchells Plain and even those in the Main Roads here in Cape Town for instance that they'll be open.

Yea sure! casinos are open 24/7 and there are always punters in a casino no matter time day or weather but the security difference between casinos and some totes i've walked in are vastly different.

Will be interesting to see come 6months down the line if they are opening totes, who will be punters or who will be vagrants looking to get out of the rain.


Why don't they concentrate in promoting South African Racing more, instead of wasting money on 24 totes to promoting oversea racing
