Ive had the same experience at the very branch in question......i no longer go there!! They have 1 person by the horse section.....if you lucky.....and 5 or 6 people by the sport and lotto section!!! They dont give a royal crap about the horse punter there.....it looks like they concentrating entirely on lotto numbers and soccer bets

Rob do you know what the gentleman was up to with this "had the racecard with his notes colour coded!"

Yes , he had a fairly basic time recording system and each racetrack times were kept with their own colors!
Form guides were also very basic in those days and he often found some very long priced "good things"
One of the few punters you find who made good money - would be interesting what he uses for analysis today as things have changed a lot !

i started a similar (im guessing that it is) coded system but had to stop until now but instead it showed up runners in different races on the same card.It uses carded runners showing on formgrids as a reference and although time consuming it is effective in finding value. Its an ambition to make this way available as either a marked card or in individual race format but marketing might not be my strongpoint

If you think service at the mentioned branch is bad then you should visit the one on the North Coast not a far distant from the airport. Clerks care a f all for the patrons especially the punter. Cellphones are continuously in use and when you ask for a bet you are either ignored or verbally "pushed off" in a lingo which many will class racialist.
There is an operation downstairs in a dump of a bar with stinking toilets where the clerks are continuously running up and to pay out the machines, gone on lunch every time and when it comes to race time then you have to go call them.
I remember as a laaitie when Marshalls was on Wick street in a very small small building and service was tops. Old man Marshall was always in the vicinity of the betting clerks and when the Marshall horse was on the job, one will always hear him shouting GIVE THEM A STRETCH.
Then I remember Chris Howe and John Parton running this branch when they relocated about 100 metres behind the old building. I'm guessing that John Parton is still part of this establishment and if this message reaches your ears then all I can say is to get Jeremy and the boys to FIX IT.
Umhlanga is still the best branch ever.

According to my local bookie- bookmakers are doing more on numbers and sports and really only a percentage on horse racing.
If this is true and I am sure the ques for those sections does not make me doubt his statement, it would make sense for them to have more staff allocated onto those sections?
The worse feeling is walking into a tote and trying to have a bet on a horse race that is about to jump and you have a guy in front of you taking a sport multi that only perhaps starts in an hour.
Back to the subject line-- the above bookie -- I do not visit. I feel the same as many that have posted.
