What a experience, havent been to this branch for a while due to shocking service. The worst part is that its the closet bookmaker to me.The only person behind the window in the horse section doesnt know how to take a horse bet and i must wait, after they go find someone the price is gone.Next race there is nobody behind the counter whatsoever, on phoning marshalls head office they say i must speak to the branch manager who refuses to see me.Where is customer service. 2 races that i have been at the branch i couldnt get a bet.In this idustry customer service is non existance

I was at turfies and asked for
12to 9 off 13/1 on their board. They flat out refused it in direct contradiction to
their marketing adverts . Phoned them and was asked to send an email . Joke !!!

SORRY ITS WORLDSPORTS BETTING I AM REFERRING TO NOT MARSHALLS

I had so many problems with their website ,I suspended dealing with them 3x - returned on their promise that their issues were resolved ,but eventually stopped dealing with them completely last year sometime!
A pity cos the original business was Vaughn Marshall's old man and he was a really top bookmaker!

RobF you said it all when you called John a top BOOKMAKER......

That's what he was a real Gentleman. Always offered us small punters a double stretch. bought us lunch and a few drinks. Often paid us out before the all clear and would never ask for the money back, should the result change. If he had an exceptional day would often give us a free bet in the last race!!!

Do you remember Phil that worked for him?.....a PA champ indeed.

Now you know where I spent many hours of my youth....... B)

Yes I remember the PA king.....had the racecard with his notes colour coded!
Yes,many times John would come out front offering double or even triple stretches.............but he knew the game well ...not too many of those won!
Any day I didn't go to the course (during the entire seventies) I raced at Umhlanga Tattersalls!

I will refrain from telling the ABC youngsters about you, Kid Colt and Mathew Lips standing on the steps at Greyville with that beautiful Blond.........(Lips still denies it).....

You were probably at Tatts when Jean Barnard sent the big boys in to back one of her horses for bigs ( which lost). Also the day Berry Mills came in to back Pendragon for uncle Syd...they took 6/1.......started odds on and won by a mile.....

Did you play darts at Oyster Box (with Lindsay Fordham).

Sadly the days of having good service has gone because their are now big groups who have bought up the licenses and the staff they employ come to work to go home...The same thing has happened at club tab at greyville where since bettingworld took it over from the bookmaker before its gone to the dogs and no amount of complaining to the bettingworld hierarchy makes any difference ..The gefilter fish stinks from the head

Gee CM ,there is a blast from the past .....I was at school and played soccer with Lindsay Fordham .........he was a real character!
I was amazed to read somewhere that Kid got divorced from that really lovely chick he went out with for years (I'm assuming that's who he married) I always saw Kid at races or cards......didn't really know his chick all that well!
I think the big money for Barnard's horses placed in Durban was for Ronnie Hammer wasn't it?
Do you know a guy called Phillip Goldkorn and/or where he is these days -nice guy and addicted to the game like us!

Rob, I better make this the last post, before Bob says this isn't a lonely hearts website .... :P

The last I saw of Philip Goldkorn was many years ago at the Vaal course. He was working for Hymie Sofer ( he seemed to be a bit down and out). He told me he went to the same orphanage as Hymie and he was looking after him. Do you remember his sidekick Jerry. Very good (looker) and snooker player and a big hustler at the tables. I backed him many times after he lost the first few frames and his price increased. The old Colorado club. Also used to go to Willie Beckers house, in Durban North to watch Herman Brown give the Natal champ a good hiding at snooker (Gary Johnson).Never forget Herman always played with his hat on!!..

You right, the money was for Ronnie Hammer. I saw Ronnie a number of years ago at Ransburg Tatts, after he was released from doing time in the UK. That was for selling those diamonds that suddenly turned into marbles. He didn't look very well and asked me to explain the new bets to him as he had been overseas "on holiday for a few years".....

I will contact you in the New Year and maybe we can meet to continue with what happened in 1970......
