We are having a special morning event on Friday 27th January at The Garrett Bar Kenilworth to commemorate Syd Garrett's contribution to racing (spanning 1927 through to 1965)- as a jockey, owner and trainer. His family - daughters Glendyr Pirija, Yvonne Bolton, family from SAF, UK, AUS and USA will be attending.
Aidan Lithgow will be speaking about his life and achievements, along with footage of some races.
His achievements include winning 11 Mets, 9 Cape Derby's, 8 Cape Guineas' and 4 Queen's Plates, a significant achievement considering with a string never exceeding 40 horses. He is also the only person to win the Durban July as a jockey, owner and trainer.
28 Jan 2017 is the 156th year of The Metropolitan - Mr Garrett still holds the most wins as trainer.
