Kimberley trainer in bother
8 years 4 months ago
Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry which was concluded on 9 January 2017 at Flamingo Park Racecourse, Trainer Corrie Lensley was charged with a contravention of Rule 10.5.1.
This arose as a result of him being the person responsible for the care, treatment and training of AFRICAN FISH EAGLE and SCARLET RIVERA, and that he failed to ensure that various Workriders and Grooms in his employ did not abuse and/or ill-treat these horses during training.
Trainer Lensley pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty of the charge.
The Board imposed a penalty of a fine of R40 000-00.
Trainer Lensley has the right of appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.

I was unaware that there is not a permanent stipe in Kimberley. I find it hard to believe that this is the truth working on the relatively large number of horses that are presently racing in that centre. What is concerning to me is the large number of doping positives and animal cruelty cases that have popped up from this region in recent years. Both of these are troublesome but the animal cruelty issue is far worse imvho. Now I dont know what Lensley got up to but I do recall Roux and Visser being responsible for allegedly starving and mistreating animals in their care. How can it be that there isn't a stipe to keep an eye on things? If they are not permanent, when do they do their duty? Please god don't tell me only around racedays? If that is the case, would it be fair to say that Kimberley has had no regulation in the last month? This is a disaster.

You can add in as well that another prominent Kimberley trainer whose horses was in his care got sold and ended in bush racing.

The Stipendiary Stewards on duty : Mr L Anderson, Mr L Nhlapo*, Mr G Timm*
(*Trainee Stipendiary Stewards)
these are the stipes on duty last meeting they ran. As you can see they are all based at Turrfontein.. If you go to the NHRA site you will see NO MENTION OF AN OFFICE NCape. That falls under Central Provinces and the stipes go up on race days and other random times.

I am shocked. Is anyone surprised then that all these positives and animal abuse cases occur? The NHA have stipes in Zimbabwe but not in Kimberley....
