Kenilworth Prawn Festival 25 Feb 2017

Did i just see correctly that there is a R30 entry fee? This is a massively popular day on the Cape racing calendar and there was no entry fee previously.
I wonder how this will affect the turnout on the day. I would guess it will make a difference. I dont think people want to fork out an entry fee and then still pay R169 for their prawns.

It seems you only pay R30 if you are not eating Prawns if i understand correctly... not sure why you would pay R30 to watch others eating Prawns though unless there is a music festival etc ... The Press Statement or pre-purchase form has no other info ... Was there a charge for the QP?

Previous years there has been no entrance fee for the prawn day......the QP had no entrance fee.....and previous years there's been no live entertainment, so not sure why an entrance fee this year? Maybe i'm missing something?
Either way, i always try my best to be there to support the day.

I can't agree more...not everyone will want to pay an entrance fee but seems like the operators will charge entrance fees on all big days in the future?.I believe a betting voucher is included in the entrance ticket fee.

Thx Neptune....you know i support the day no matter what, but im just thinking of the hundreds of people that just come for the prawns (there are more than likely thousands). At such a good price a lot of the people come to eat and also buy to take home. They might not want to pay an entrance fee. It's just my opinion of course, but we can check in after we know the attendance figures. I hope it's a massive day.....as per usual

Date: 7 February 2017
As the Summer of Champions draws to a close there’s chance for one final feature race fling with the annual Cape Town Prawn Festival taking place at Kenilworth Racecourse on February 25.
One of the more eagerly awaited culinary delights on the Cape Town calendar, racegoers can get their hands on a special offer of R169 per kg of prawns including sauce and rice or chips.
The horseracing highlight on the day will be the running of the Vasco Prix Du Cap (Gr 3) contest for fillies and mares over 1400m with a stake of R250 000 on offer.
Racegoers will also be entertained by a jazz band while the DJ on course will add to the vibe of the day and there will be enough to keep the kids entertained to ensure that this is the perfect family outing.
There will also be a beer garden to ensure that thirsts are quenched. R50 000 worth of prizes will be given away with one lucky racegoer set to walk away with a grand prize of R20 000 worth of home appliances.
There are also a number of options for those looking to take full advantage of the hospitality with packages starting from R250 in the Somerset Room and topped by the all-inclusive Seafood Extravaganza, at R1450 per person, in the Kenilworth Room.
General access to Kenilworth Racecourse on the day is R30 for adults, which earns an automatic entry into the lucky draw, and Under-18s get in for just R10.
