As usual, taking the early prices available rather than waiting for Hollywood and Bettingworld to open up, would generally have been beneficial, tis my perception of those I "fancy" anyway.
A rare bit of waffling tripe...
R1 Hoping the re-schooling has worked as I think there is some value with Heir To Riches. Lost lengths at the start lto (and is historically a poor starter) to both British Fairy and Bruce's Beauty and was a mile back coming round the final turn lto but finished within 0.15l of both. With the hope of a better start, from a decent draw and on 3rd run after a rest, I think he is a big runner here. Blue Castle. excuses lto, did finish 1l in front of HTR two runs back but the latter was returning from a 16 week break and was drawn widest. Still, with the 1 box I think BC may be the biggest danger and Dancing Ruga might get the trifecta spot despite returning from 14 weeks off.
R2 French Captain has been in respectable form since coming to PE and despite making his poly debut here I think he could be the one to beat off a lowly weight. He has done nearly all his racing over 1000 but did win a weak looking maiden emphatically over this d in his first race in the province. Rebel House ran well lto and might be on the way back, he could prove the biggest danger. Forgive Stormy Ridge's run lto when nso and he could prove to be the joker in the pack.
R3 Aspen Fire in a race i didn't look at too closely.
R4 Stablemates Alghadeer and Dreamforest could fight this one out, with the former my marginal preference. The rested Masterly might take the trifecta spot. Another race I didn't labour over.
R5 In an open looking contest, I am taking an e/w chance on the lightly weighted Van Dam's Force, though I am disappointed at the price now showing. Often there or thereabouts the appie gives him a good chance of turning the tables on some and with the Smith stable going ok they can be competitive from the 3 box. Stablemate and conqueror of VDF lto, Golden Crisp should be in the vicinity while Red Hot Lady might pip Coastal Spell to the trifecta spot.
R6 Bollemakiesie, I Will Be and Shine Like A Star. That is the order I am going with, though the one I am really tempted by is the 3rd selection, SLAS finished really strongly lto and got up for 3rd just 0.1l off Bollemakisie in 2nd. That was 2nd run after a break but the problem is he is again drawn wide and Bollemakisie is drawn 3, 6 last time. That might just give the latter, who is holding his form really nicely, the edge needed to again hold off SLAS's expected challenge. I will Be could also be right there in what might be a very tight finish. Much depends on how race fit he is after a 10 week rest. Winner of his last two, the second of which came after 8 weeks away, he has every right to be in the mix. Other options too but I'm trying to limit my waffle!
R7 Another where there are a number in with a fair shout. Seemingly not the stable elect but I like Honest Ally here, she seemed to lose momentum at a crucial stage lto and by the time it was regained, stablemate Seattle Burning had the race won, she still ran on well late though to take 2nd from Dance In The Woods. The latter's low weight must again give her a decent chance, but I think Candy Crush will prove the biggest danger to my selection, she has had 3 decent runs on this surface and was very close to getting my nod. Typhoon Tess is always a threat and could take the quartet spot (or better!).
R8 In a field where most appear to have something of a chance, I like the e/w look about Trouble Maker. The seemingly below par effort lto is a concern but back on the Poly and down in trip from a good draw, I think gives him a very decent chance. He won both his last 2 starts on the poly over 100 further from wider draws and has not finished outside of the top 4 in 5 runs on this surface. Rock Of Victory is drawn wide but has run well from tough draws previously and the Smith yard seem in fair fettle, if he doesn't lose ground at the start he could be a big player at a price. The ladies for the minor places, Varlotone for the somewhat resurgent Shams should put in a decent effort from the 1 box while a better start than lto from Patty Cake could also see her competitive.
My main e/w patent... R1 Heir To Riches x R7 Honest Ally x R8 Trouble Maker
My semi-idiots e/w patent... R2 Stormy Ridge, R6 I Will Be x R8 Rock Of Victory
Be(s)t of luck to all
