When I saw the incident I was not surprised that an objection followed as the whip movement seemed unnatural when compared with other rides from Andrew.
Whether it had an impact or not would be hard to say even though Gavin believes it did not. Most horses fear the whip or at least have a healthy respect for it which is why just showing the whip will often create the desired impact.
The third horse might not have checked in this incident but to what extent did it prevent it from trying to close the gap given the whip being waved about in the manner that it was and that closing further might have brought it into harms way.
Guess we will never know but glad that the incident received some attention.
It could have been accidental but a strange one anyway.
