Frankel vs Arrogate
8 years 2 months ago - 8 years 2 months ago
Is see the racingpost have done an article on the title subject, how can the two even be compared ? Not even sure Arrogate has been the best dirt horse the last few years never mind the "best ever" that's being banded about! Thoughts?

Bob and Clan i am seriously going to try a reply without opening the link.
I must say i was spellbound by the win but let me start be saying that i feel that the world cup has always been over rated and its a money event vs great horses .
I would probably like a comment from someone like Barry Irwin ?
I understand that Secretariat could have been the best horse ever but i felt that the field that Arrogate beat on sat was mediocre.
I was born in an era of Sir Ivor, Mill Reef and have always biased to great horses running on grass
Hope to hear your various views but Frankel was special to me.

Ja Dave I agree
I don't really think we have anyway to chart the generations accurately? It's like saying Pele was better than Messi because the baw was heavier in those days
All I'm saying
The last 3 or 5 years in the States the Social Media pr machines have turned American Pharoah , California Chrome and now Arrogate into the " best since "

My fav DWC winner was no doubt PRINCE BISHOP!!! He would've whipped any horse that day! To me Frankel was the best ever.I doubt the rest mentioned above really compares to him.The american media and ABC posters are alike...they are very quick to brand 'champions' ect,lol

FRANKEL is hands down the greatest ever turf horse from 1400m to 2000m . He proven that over and over .... that is FACT. Nothing present or in the past comes even close .
You cannot compare Arrogate vs Frankel.... Dirt and Turf ....
Lots of talk about how good Arrogate is.... for me its simple , use Mubtaahij as a linehorse.... American Pharoah , California Chrome both beaten him well but both had no problems and ideal runs ( the saddle slip on CC never troubled him or the jock, the jock even stood up and celebrated in the saddle ) but ARROGATE had the most terrible nightmare race but with all that he smashed Mubtaahij.... no doubt the greatest DIRT horse since secretariat.

Arrogate may very well be special on the up with the best yet to come ..but it is clear that this was a weak field....Mubtahij ran 4th and was beaten in his last start by a horse who finished down field in an earlier race on the day. I also believe that the horse must prove similar form on grass to be called the greatest ever....
Lol....maybe Pylon of Mike Azzies would give him a shout on the sand....that horse could win with any weight when not on grass. Maybe Arrogate will be the worlds best ever....but thats relative to what you run against and the spectator opinion of the time.
Every 2 years or so we get another headline that tags the best....hype sells marketshare and product value......to catch a fish you use bait. ..in racing we use Supreme atlethes to draw blood in to sustain the business.

Mubtaahij ran second to Shaman Ghost in a Grade 1 feature last year. Gun Runner then beats Shaman Ghost in a Grade 1 in its next start. In the Pegasus Arrogate beats Shaman Ghost and Neolithic. Neolithic runs third in the Dubai World Cup. Mubtaahij ran better in my books but he would have not gone any closer to the first three.
Incidentally Neolithic got bought by Qatar racing prior to the Dubai World Cup.

I have a keen interest in USA racing and UK. From all the horses I read and watched snippets of Secretariat is the best dirt horse I have come across and on turf Ribot which is my profile picture.
From seeing races live on TV no doubt Frankel on Turf and Arrogate on Dirt.
Others I have read about who deserve a mention will be Seattle Slew, Affirmed and Ruffian.
I think Bloodhorse rated Man O' War the best dirt horse of the century beating Secretariat.

Irrespective of the verdict, Arrogate has certainly captured the racing world's attention and he is a Great horse. I get goosebumps when I see his replays. His win in the world cup was.......illegal....the other owners and trainers should have objected....he won from an impossible position. To think he is only a 3 year old....
