I wouldn't be writing off Al Sahem just yet, still lightly raced and will still improve further. I do feel the Gold Standard based on the Met run is the best 3 year old colt in the country. Zodiac Ruler is another I am expecting to be a strong contender in the Winter Season.
Orchid Island looks a special filly and expect her to be competitive.

he's only a 99 according to nhra so careful placing by his trainer, who is excellent at that, could see him go into a race like the July near the bottom of the weights as long as he does not bump Gold Standard and beat him before that!!

I cannot see Heavenly Blue being the top colt during the season - he's below the best for me as are most of the Gauteng colts as shown.
William Longsword was the best of them but since he's been retired - definitely Gold Standard as of now but I've heard he won't be seen much in Durban.
Long as things progress well, Ngaga should win the Woolavington.
the worry for me is that in her last 2 wins there have been about 41 subsequent starts and only one winner(herself) from that lot...so i would personally back any of the Gauteng fillies against her on exposed form...there is not much between her and stable-mate Philae on a line through Seattle Gold (both beating her under similar weight conditions and margins) and Philae was found to be 5 lgths inferior to the top horses in the Classic...just my take

What does Dean Kannemeyer have this year that is a potential July runner?

Edict Of Nantes.....
Every year I take the double of the Investec Derby winner for the Daily News 2000 onto the July if it runs in Daily News..
The form of the Derby holds up well for the July
