Anyone who takes same horse doubles with the antepost rules and the DEDUCTION must have their head read.
you are on a hiding to nothing
so taking elusive silva as an example, 17/1 to do the double...actual odds 27/1
so you taking 9/2 the horse in the double for the july after the deduction as the horse is 5/2 in the first leg.
Now if elusive silva wins ...you will get around 4/1 maybe even 9/2 anyway in the july....actually the way this july is going you should get 6/1 the field on july day and that's with a guaranteed run
and ho and behold that elusive silva runs a great flying unlucky second in the first leg...it still shortens to 4/1 or 5/1 but your bet is dead.
I always make a july book with about 10 or 12 horses to win a 100k ...buts its never with the same horse double..its a sucker bet..excuse the pun

IMO not a clever bet to take, its best to take your fancy for July with another random horse you fancy and get the full multiple odds
Good punting

Let's try again ....
Imo it depends on the horse and the odds offered ?
Let's say for argument's sake that you fancy Ten Gun Salute in the 1900 tonight - think the best you can get currently is 30/1 - so you take 3,000 /100 (and that's already a bit rich for my wallet  ) He needs to win tonight to have any chance of making the final July field, so if he runs 2nd tonight he probably won't make the July field anyway, but if he wins, you'd receive R3,100 less tax. By winning he probably shortens to around 20/1 for the July - so you can take around 60,000 / 3,000 - and if he wins you would make a profit of around 60,000 less tax ...
Taking the 'same horse double', you can get 850/1 - so that would be 85,000 / 100 - yielding you a profit of 85,000 less tax should he by some chance win both races

Hi Frodo hope u well
Just looking at your example on HW
The same horse double is 1000/1
The horse is 25/1 tonight and 88/1 July. So its over 2300/1 multiple odds
So rather find another 25/1 shot tonight ( i know your good )

I'm trying to take a different horse double in race 7 & 8 onto the July with Hollywood and it's not allowing saying it's a related bet
I don't see any relation as the horses are different in the 2 legs

Is the horse for the July in running in race 7 or 8 if so you need to phone the bet in

It was running in race 8, but now that they changed the surface I've changed my mind.
But surely with their new system this issue should have been addressed and eliminate the need to phone in

You are correct, same argument for Master Switch when they priced the double @100/1. Some are value, some aren't
