Petrava, although bred in New Zealand won the Paddock Stakes and the SA Fillies Guineas. Her daughter, Hoeberg, then won the same two races years later. Petrava also produced Equus Champion sire Jallad. Both were bred in Australasia and raced in South Africa.
Some of my favorite broodmares of yesteryear include, First Lisa, Special Felice, Volga, Tawny Red and more recently Nacarat. Got a whole list!!!!

Only through Evening Mist as it was De Kock first big success. In the 1990's when I should read the race cards I should look at previous winners and placed horses of the race and try to ascertain their breeds to look out for their future foals or in fillies races to watch out for their progeny on the dam side. Like for instance, Tight Drums, placed in a couple of 2yo features and her dam then produced Grade 1 winners, Planetary Music and Drum Star. Tight Drums is the dam of Skin Tight.
Sadly these memories what keeps me in the game. I dont have to have a bet to watch a race with good horses running it.

Always wondered if an overseas based broodmare can be broodmare of the year in South Africa. Even asked on Sportingpost before but got no reply. National Colour definitely fits the bill !!!!
