Ive said this in person , I've said it on air and now here.

Gavin Lerena is TOO good to be riding in the UK. Ill explain my logic.

Gosden - Dettori - stable jockey
- Buick 2
- Fortune 3

Johnston - Norton 1
- Fanning 1

Haggas - Cosgrave 1

Stoute - Moore
- many others 2

Varian - Atzeni

Cumani - Spencer

Godolphin - Buick
- Doyle

Qatar - Murphy

S Hamden - Crowley
- O Neil 2

O Brien - Moore

Ryan Moore - almost any rides

Fahey - Hanagan

Im sure I've left a few out. BUT look at it like this, in this years 2000 Guineas there were 10 starters. 10 horses. Riding in the UK is tough BUT can be done BUT not without support. Gavin is a very very very good jockey but he is competing for ride number 8 0r 9 in a race. When the big handicaps come along then the use of apprentices comes into it.

I wish him the absolute best.

I said on Saturday that if I was his agent I would be BEGGING to become Price Khalid Abdulla's retained jockey. I would even do it for free BUT the prince has stated he does not want a retained jock. so its a tough sell.

When I spoke to Titch and to Gavin I suggested the USA, with his young family its a no brainer and I GUARANTEE that within 1 year he will be in the top 5 money earners in the USA.

I don't want to be a "billy know it all" but I do live here and I am involved here in a few stables. Gavin is on par and in some cases a better jockey than most listed above BUT the deals are done and long standing.

I wish him the best.

@ Easy. Top five money earners in the USA within a year  Thats going to be over R200 milion rands. Depending on which circuit he is going to ride, every circuit already has their top three jockeys and trainers already have their designated jockeys. These top American jockeys ride over 1300 mounts a year on an oval track. Gavin has to be really worth his muscle as dirt tracks is a different ball game altogether. Not saying he can do it but top 5!!!! Please see after how many years Castellano broke into the top 5 money earners.

as usual you have a lot to say when I post. When I spoke to Titch sent him figures for Sophie Doyle (jame's sister) and how she struggled in the UK and turned her whole carer around in the USA and NOT at Arapaho Downs but in Chirchil Downs.

At the time O had offered an introduction to a trainer in California. I have no doubt that Gavin has the ability to be top rider at a place like Golden Gate and pretty quickly be riding at Santa Anita.

1 Year of that and again I have no doubt that he rides for a top stable. No doubt in my mind what so ever.

At the same time his wife and children are living in one of the best locations on earth, he is riding 6 days a week but home every day. The lifestyle in California is 2nd to none.

So again ill publicly state that Gavin Lerena is a top class jockey and with out a doubt will make it in the USA.

BUT there is one thing Gavin is shit at (same as all of us)........... stopping time and time waits for no man.

Harder to get in US barns as a jock then other country on the planet

Fallon
Dettori
De Souza

have all tried and failed recently

PS riding for the Hills yard is no back number, soon as he starts riding winners for the big owners the other trainers will asked to use

I Disagree

Fallon Dettori and De Sousa went there to ride in the off season ( as many have done ) to get a clock in their heads. Their "commitment" is to their stables and owners in the UK and Ireland.

Professional sportsman visa sorts him out.

As for riding for Hills, I rate Gavin a good 2 lengths better then the Dazzler Darryl Holland yet I don't think that is enough. The dazzler came back as stable jockey to Hills and failed.

Hills old school, everything about the future all about the classic races. So riding winners not as important as bringing horses on. His is one of the stables we look at buying horses from at the HIT sales we feel there is always a bit more in the tank.
