Race 1: Celestina - 2nd to Green Plains should be good enough to win here
Race 6: Blue Diamond was caught late over 1600, drop in trip will be right up his alley , should go from pillar to post
Race 8: Dreamuponadream dropped from 91 to a 68 in ratings and if he ever is gonna have his day in the sun , it should be tomorrow

Regarding ratings dropping

lots of punters get excited by horse A was rated this and that and now example 20 points lower

let's not forget its been running like shit that's why the ratings dropping

unless the trainer was prepping to have the rating dropped to win the coming up race it will probably run another shit race

Horses returning after a 210 day lay off and a year lay off gets a rating reduction. Horses that never make the necessary WFA improvemwnt can also have their ratings reduced by the handicapper.

Wild Brier has been running very well of late and put in a good effort behind on of the July fancies last time out. Well drawn and unbeaten over the C & D. Looks a hard horse to beat.

Unfortunately Raydaverik badly injured a tendon in his leg. He will hopefully be able to run again but will need 6 months rest. :(

With all the focus on tomorrow evening's racing, this meeting will probably not attract too much interest - still a challenging card with the usual mix of handicaps and maiden races - but alos the first (that I'm aware of) 'Middle Stakes' in Gauteng ...

I would check the draw influence in the first few races ...

R2: With the first timers, it's anyone's guess - of the raced runners, Soldat makes some appeal - roughie Severino (bled last time and before that finished just behind Soldat)

R3: The 'Middle Stakes' - B Twenty One best in and very hard to beat imo - Consequentially best in of the others, but that rating was achieved over 2000 and she has disappointed over 2400 before - best roughie imo is Stunned, who should be running on from a wide draw

R4: Weak field - both Town Flyer and Barbados Cruise try the trip - looks the best two runners in the race, but if neither of them stays, anything is possible - would love to know why Culture Queen is racing with no blinkers, only previous run when sporting those, have been a good one

R5: If one fancies Elusive Silva on Friday evening, then Wild Brier must be a good thing here - ran above his rating last time behind ES (if one takes ES's rating on trust) ; I do think he will go close, but might have a race on his hands with the recent maiden winner Starpath, who seems decent; these two stand out imo from runners like Misty Roller (should be easily held by WB), Happy Pills (more to do imo). Silvan Saint (a touch high in the handicap ?) and Dawnbreaker (not sure to stay)

R6: Tough handicap - I'm including a whole lot

R7: Romi's Boy very impressive last win and is the obvious choice; places to be fought out between Angel's Power, Morpheus, Sporting Monarch and Double Appeal

R8: Another tough handicap - for value I'm including Last Battle who should appreciate the slightly softer conditions and potentially jumps from a good draw

R9: Don Christo looks the right one from Pistolero and Thewaywemakethem (up 8 points for his last 2 wins); Timeofthevikings and Royal Variety not without chances - roughies to consider imo are Queen's Jet and Extreme Dubai (7 lengths behind Brazuca at almost level weights before a break - and Zackey takes the ride from potentially a good draw)

Enjoy B)
