About 7 days. A course of anti biotics(5 days) A course of anti inflammatories (about 3 days). And then the relevant withdrawal period of the meds.
The condition is exercise induced, through heavy work, a hard gallop or a race. Rest about 3 days and then continue with basic canters for a week or two.
Most horses are low grade breeders, so this will not be visible through the nostrils. Once the epistaxis is noticed through blood in the nostril, that horse is a heavy bleeder. Those horses will probably be galloped on lasix at home, in prep for a race. The diuretic effect of the lasix reduces the fluid in the body and the potential of epistaxis. But, we cannot race on lasics. Come race time, homeopathic treatments are used into the race.
Hope that helps, Cycad.
