What is your biggest weapon as a punter?
7 years 11 months ago
I remember a Duff's guide from the 70's (when I was a wee lad) that said:
'A good punter has patience and guts - the patience to wait for a good bet and the guts to bet big when it comes'
Forty years later it still rings true for me as the best advice I have seen, and the most potent weapons I have.
Patience and guts.

Well said Bokked. One doesn't have to take a bet on every race, or every day. It requires discipline, something us punters sometimes lack lol.

Formstudy and experience.... experience dont come quickly and it comes with a big price.... anybody making a success punting will tell you that they paid plenty schoolfees.
Do your own ratings !!!!!!!
Dont listen to any jock or trainer what they like , rather ask them what they dont like and why, if something went wrong with the horse in preparation , thats the info you want , 90% of big punts landed will always be without the stable even knowing what happened and who got the money.

First and foremost is your eye. If you see a horse that impresses you, back it.
don't let any comments etc put you off
don't worry about the price of your fancy. who cares if it's 33/1 and nobody's giving it a shout. horses don't know their prices
if you follow horses, you probably liked it for a reason, don't stop following them - i've lost count the number of times horses let me down but follow up with a win somewhere down the line
and always go with your gut feel, never change from your original pick.
