Got a call from a very good punting from of mine last Saturday and he did not want to know about anything else in the July except Ten Gun Salute. The way he carried on it is past the post already, others don't need to jump

tgs.you guys must be smoking some serious stuff to tip or punt a kzn trained horse for any classic distance gr1 race.recent history has proved that all kzn trained horses have no chance of winning or even placing in gr1 races over 1600m or further.i will go with recent history and completely ignore all the kzn runners in the july and any gr1 race of 1600m or beyond.

Anything can happen in the race - running wide, boxed in, etc. It's not an exact science, even with weights and heightened probabilities, this is what makes racing exciting.
Herewith Charles Faull's post race assessment that was published last year in SPost.

Maybe, just maybe, the elusive July winner is not so Elusive after-all
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

The reason could be his riding weight.

Hmmm now I get you. The minimum riding weight of the then Rothmans July was around 48 to 49 kgs back then. So coming down to 53kg should be no "sweat"
