The people that cast that golden beam

I would just like to send out a message of appreciation to the Cato Ridge horse care unit. Judging by their vehicle (also not sure how many they have, but in this case it was a silver ford ranger double cab), they are subsidized by Gold Circle....

Anyway, yesterday I was in hammersdale on route to a customer. I happened to drive past this vehicle with its hazards on and checking to see if everything was ok, I noticed a lady and gent with a seriously ill horse. As tempted as I was to stop, I was late for a meeting so ventured on. An hour or so later, on route from my customer, I noticed the vehicle was still there with its hazards on. I could not help myself but stop. I must say, when I got out my vehicle, their reaction was a case of disbelief (obviously not used to people given a f@#k).... Anyway, I walked to where they were sitting with the horse and asked them "Hi guys, is everything alright". They were really friendly and explained that the thoroughbred they had hold of was seriously malnourished and they were waiting for the owner to arrive at the scene. Tbh, a blind man could have seen how bad this horses condition was. Only then to be told, this was not the first time they had "captured " this horse and taken it back to their base for healing. I asked why on earth the owner still had the animal if he had neglected it so badly the first time. But as explained to me, the owner would not sign the animal over to them so their hands were tied as if they went any other route, it would constitute as stock theft...

While I was there, they had treated the horse for terrible saddle sores, fed it (in the ladies words "smashed the food, but couldnt give it to much to prevemt colic"), and given it a bucket of water, which it also lapped up at a rate of knots...

Unfortunately I had to leave before the owner of the horse got there, as I would of loved to have a nice little chat to him (words might of been an after thought ;) ), but they were hoping they would convince him to sign the horse over to them so they could hopefully get the girl back to good health (imvho, I was actually almost in tears with the condition of it and doubted if it would recover)...

Anyway, the reason for this message was that should any top notch KZN boys happen to read this, your cato ridge horse care unit did / is doing a great job and deserve all the credit available....
