The morning after .... and let me start by saying that I have had one of the worst July days ever
. I had 9 horses in the July running for me - but alas Marinaresco was not one of them - and the results the rest of the day did not favor me at all .... but we take it on the chin and next year I'm going to clean up .... just have to figure out where I went wrong this year
First thing that comes to mind is that one needs to give more credit to the handicapper - he / they got it spot on - the first 8 horses ran very close to their ratings - and he gave the 3 yr-olds the correct rating - as the result shows, they were definitely not 'thrown in'. The mistake I made was ignoring the best horse in the handicap, thinking that 'he can't win with that weight'
Last thing that I am wondering about this morning, is what the jocks are thinking ... I should / should not have done that, or if only I did not go there ..... especially Marcus and Delpech - in the colts juvenile they both went to the outside (where in recent times the best going were) - but yesterday there was no advantage going there (in fact the going seemed to be slightly better down the middle and towards the inside). So they got beat - and in the July they did exactly the same - so imo Edict of Nantes can be considered an unlucky loser, and I can't help feeling that all those on the outside would have been better off going down the middle / inside (Bela Bela a case in point) - but then of course there would have been a traffic jam. It really is a pity that the Greyville of old is no more
Congrats to the winners - and to the losers (like me) - better luck next time

For me, after watching this race, I am left with one burning question that I know I will never get the answer to... With imo, in desperate need if gelding..... How good could Horizon actually be?

Frodo - exactly your sentiment on Maranaresco was what I thought. It took me out the pick 6 which we were running 10%. At the end of the 9 races we were still only 1 leg out.
I didn't choose the #puntlife, the #puntlife chose me!

I think the Durban July day left alot to be desired.
It's one of the biggest meetings on the South African racing calender yet it's subjected to sharing the spotlight with average racing from Turffontein and Kenilworth.
How big would pools have been had Greyville been a stand-alone?
I said it on SunMet day and I'll say it again now: less is more.

What a cracking finish by HORIZON...
Def to follow drawn in the Bush stone last turning for home on the short straight finished like a rocket...should train on from here.

I also noticed that, a great run considering all that was against him, clearly the money they paid for him - 5 bar odd --- there is something to him, worth following
