The recognition of South African horseracing’s print and electronic media through the industry’s Equus Awards, has been summararily cancelled.

In a press release addressed to ‘Dear Journalists’, Racing Association CEO Larry Wainstein, writes:

On behalf of the Equus Awards Committee, comprising myself, Clyde Basel and Graeme Hawkins, I wish to advise that the print and electronic awards previously awarded at the Annual Equus Awards will be discontinued with effect from this year. The reason that the committee took this decision is that the majority of entrants are employed by the racing operators and with this in mind, it was agreed to cancel this category.

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in previous years. We look forward to the continuation of your support in the future.

The annual Equus Awards, also known as the Oscars of South African horseracing, are presented to individuals, both equine and human, who have achieved exceptional results during the racing season for that period. That’s according to the publicity blurb…Horse Racing

Rumours that the Owner of the Year Award would also be cancelled as Mayfair Speculators own most of our horses, could not be confirmed – Ed

This is unfortunately one of the consequences of having all your eggs in one basket so to speak. What is disturbing is the fact that 3 self=appointed individuals are taking decisions on behalf of the industry without consultation. The reason for this decision is given as " the majority of entrants are employed by the racing operators", what an ingenious excuse. The reality is that this "problem" has been in place for years, so the question must be asked - why now?

As Robin Bruss says on Sporting Post, perhaps the possibility of Robyn Louw winning the award looms large for the red-suited megalomaniac who has previously called for her to be expelled from racing entirely. Interestingly the reasons given for that expulsion have been proven to be truthful when challenged by he who must be obeyed, and he has been exposed as a liar in this regard, but that is another issue entirely. I personally do not believe that this is the reason, there was no way Robyn would ever win an award while these idiots made the decision. I believe the person that needs to feel aggrieved is Charl Pretorius, who surely would be odds on to win the award. The fact is he runs an RA/industry funded website and we all know how tight this incestuous lot are when the cash is distributed. The circle is tight, very tight.

OTA - Thank You that is a Fantastic word

megalomaniac
mɛɡələˈmeɪnɪak/Submit
noun
1.
a person who has an obsessive desire for power.

Although I disagree with you re CP - As I am not sure why the opperators are using ex Hustler Porn edititors , ex convicts like Blank to promote Interbet .

Surely we should be encouraging a whole new young generation to write and award them for their efforts.

As far as the reason - Nobody knows . I think it all got to do with Robyns recent article about the Upgrade at Kensilworth.

If you read SP Comments
Dear Mrs Louw Flyer

The other day, I commented on the Sporting Post article about Kenilworth Race Course being developed to become a multi faceted racing, residential and business park.
Your editor must have deemed by comment to be inappropriate because he refused to allow it to be published. It was then that I reached the conclusion that the Sporting Post has been ‘captured’.

Your column of today has shown me that I could be wrong about the Sporting Post. I do not think so. Mr Mediema can deny this until he is blue in the face.

Getting back to my previous comment. I said that Vidrik Thurling who is a director of the Cape racing Co promised the competition commission that the demerger of Gold Circle would protect the fixed assets of the Western Cape for the benefit of the sport through the Racing Trust. This is a fact. Sporting Post decided to not print this. Why, I do not know. Is the Sporting Post protecting someone.

As far as I am concerned any development in the Cape must be for the benefit of horse racing and the fixed assets cannot be used. If my understanding of Mr Thurlings promise is wrong, at the very least, Cape Racing and the Racing Trust have to show that every Rand and Cent earned will be used for and benefit horse racing. Allowing Cape Racing and Phumelela to use the money is NOT for the benefir of horse racing. It is only for the benefit of Phumelela which is not a charitable organisation and for the trustees of the Trust.

I doubt that this will ever see the light of day. At least I have said what I wanted to get off my chest.

Funny lets join the dots Vidrik Thurling sits on this panel and Board.
