Rider death at Milnerton?
7 years 10 months ago
Can any the western Cape boys confirm this?
Just saw this on our Milnerton Community page :
Sad news from a neighbour this morning. A Jockey from the stables has come off his horse and found on the reserve side of the fence. Very Sad RIP

On Tabonline news it just says:
A trainer Candice Bass-Robinson staff member was fatally injured whilst working a horse on a training track. Emergency services were quick to react but sadly the individual was declared dead upon arrival.
A full investigation will be undertaken by Kenilworth Racing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Shame, hopefully a fund will be set up, are workriders insured?

All employees has to be covered WCA/COID (Workmen Compensation Act). In case of death at work or injury this fund will pay out.
The Employer will receive a "Letter of Good Standing" if his up to date with his payments.

Judging by the various funds, operators employees don't even seem to have medical aid cover!

And if one of them needed a tooth out a fund would be set up!
How hard would it for them to announce a crowd giving address

Very sad - yes, dangerous profession. Condolences to family, friends and colleagues.
Rob, are work riders employed by the operators? As far as I know work riders are employed by trainers and do not fall under the operators?

Grooms are employed by Trainers and are covered by WCA.
However, at Randjes, Turffontein, Vaal, Kimberley and Fairview, Phumelela have subscribed to Netcare 911 on behalf of Trainers. In the case of an accident and/or emergency, they are on standby.
