Hi Dave, 1984 (circa.) You can understand the frustration about the inertia just dragging on and on and on and the many proposals and meetings over the last 25 years.
Anyhow, good morning!! and just a short message to let you know the Workshop in JHB is happening on Wedn. It's about racing's perception and Transparency. I am attending and will be pushing for information transparency and effective communication systems to PUNTERS as much as I can. Hold thumbs there is real attention given - apparently it is the first of a couple of workshops that Phum is having.

The question is what can "we" do for racing.
The answer lies in what your opinion of the efficacy of the operators and the NHRA are. If you think the job is being done well and the forward planning is resulting in a bright future, then you support by betting on the tote and buying horses to ensure that the game thrives. If you believe that the job is being done badly, with self interests and poor administration ruling, then you avoid supporting the tote at all costs.
It is as simple as that.

I would say one of the biggest concerns would be customer care, just compare the bookmakers reaction to a concern on the site, as opposed to a tote query.
The posters here are not members of a secret clan, they are potential customers, that are mostly punters, just looking for a voice to be heard for a better service.

This is possibly one of the cleverest posts that I have read on this site

Well I hope some good comes of this. There are many positives but at the same time to many negatives . I could not agree more with OTA.

Not the first of it's kind and won't be the last. The best ideas will only be implemented when self interests takes a back seat to industry needs which means not anytime soon.
No amount of talking can ever beat real initiatives for growth being put into place. Until the industry players start working together to expand the cake and not just their own slice these initiatives will remain a waste of time.
I have been to quite a few of these types of events over the last 7 years and have heard some very good plans but have not seen one implemented. Everyone wants the benefits but no one wants to take the initiative if it means spending money.
A regrettable farce mostly which suggests that initiatives are needed outside of only the direct beneficiaries for the industry to gain from it.

You are right Don.
I have become a cynical swine after being exposed to too many people with no genuine interest in racing.
Hope it will go really well and grow wings in time.
