Why do the big owners avoid Flamingo Park ?
7 years 10 months ago
I have taken a sample of the top owners in SA and have asked myself if these owners have got anything against racing at Flamingo Park.
Yesterday was Kimberleys biggest race day and the only visible top drawer owner who had horses running was Roy Moodley.
What is going on?
Are these big owners prejudiced against racing in the Northern Cape?
How many of the top 100 owners have given an authority to act to a Kimberly trainer?
Mayfair Speculators (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Mr D L Brugman)
Mr C J H Van Niekerk
Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum
Mrs S Plattner
Al Adiyaat
Mauritzfontein (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Miss J B Slack)
Messrs C & R Kieswetter
Varsfontein Stud (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Mr J S Kalmanson)
Drakenstein Stud (Nom: Mrs G A Rupert)
Mr A L A Crabbia
etc

Always a mouthful , why didn't you attend the big day yesterday. Don't know of anyone or didn't meet anyone attending that didn't loved it. I would love to know how many attended , i seen less people at the course on big days at turffontein and Kenilworth before.
Really annoying if it's the same complainers always but otherwise contribute nothing by any means towards racing . If you so sour , maybe get yourself a budgie or a hobby but ffs please stop whining .

Between Candice Dawson and Kumaran Naidoo they won 60% of the races and that is with their average to below average horses. If those trainers had to raid every week the local Kimberley trainers will battle to win that's for sure.I am sure you local trainers would only want this to happen once a year otherwise it definitely won't be profitable to train for you guys.

Ziets theres nothing sour about my comment. The truth is the truth and that shithole dont get a cent from my punting stash. So I wonder how tote turnovers compare with a normal Joburg meeting? I get it that you earn your living out of that godawful place but it changes nothing. Its a pit

Jurgs the question should be to the trainers of the top 100 owners...never easy to go to Kimberley and win well done to trainers Naidoo and Dawson

specify what exactly what is so rubbish about Kimberley- the course, the fact that it's a sand track, the facility, the service, the calibre of race and purse?

Don its not difficult at all for me to quantify my disdain about Kimberley racing. Let me try answer this as neutrally as possible so not to upset Ziets and the rest of his fellow Flamingo conditioners, it is after all akin to asking Zumas cabinet to vote against him where the successful outcome would be losses of livelihood. In no particular importance:
1. The worst quality of horse/jockey in the country
2. The most unsound horses participating
3. The track and surrounds - compare this to the UK competition available every Monday
4. The reversals in form, often with accompanying support from those in the know
5. The lack of proper policing by the Stipes
6. The documented horse abuse cases over the years
7. Better quality betting propositions from overseas at the same time as Flamingo Park. On their "big" day they were competing with Goodwood amongst others. Do me a favour.....
8. Deterioration in the maintenance of the track now results in abandonment if a raincloud is spotted within 50 nautical miles. Peter Miller would roll in his grave if he could see what has become of "his" track.
I am sure I can add a good few but this is enough to justify why I will not waste my time and money on this track. Flamingo the end of the road.
