Neil Andrews and pals
7 years 9 months ago
"One replay is worth a thousand formlines",, what is he/they on about, Telly Track vs Formgrids ?? does he and his pals at Telly Track not know that its about building and serving the racing industry together and not about Phumelela products versus "Outsider" products,, We the "Outsiders'' are doing our best to support and serve the sport/industry,, while others are doing their best to get the industry/sport to support and serve them,,,,

Watch replays ? What do you see in the last 200m of a race ? Close up of the horses fighting it out ?
I have videos of striker winners from 1988/89/90. You saw MUCH MORE in those days. You could see which horses were baulked late, which ones were running on late , going one paced etc
Nowadays you see only the main contenders at the end part of a race. There is NO WAY that you can study a race as well nowadays as in years before. Tellytrack is NOT helping punters nearly as much as it could. It's not there to win Academy Awards, it's not there to please some artistic flair of some guy who buys a camera to put on the roof of a mini van or on a drone. Tellytrack is there for the edification of Punters. IMHO, Tellytrack is under performing in this regard.

In my opionion SA racing cant thank the late Ernie Duffield enough,, the formation of Duffs Turf Guide by Ernie which has evolved into Computaform was one of the best things that happened to SA Racing,, although stats have been added and a few minor changes were made, some not for the good of the publication, it's still Ernies basic concept that has done good for racing

Formgrids should be purchased by Phumulela and shown on tellytack. Will make so much sense!!!

A few comments. I agree with LG the replays are for people who have missed the race and get to see the final furlong . Mainly for owners who want to see " where " theit horse ran. Total waste of time for anyone that wants to watch the start - during the race and the final stages . Head ons are so important as 9/10 times you don't see horses move across or get interfered with. Using the full footage you could with technology also do your own times . It is very irritating that they only have a play and stop button - what happened to pause or slow down. They are so far off the eight ball in helping the punter or form students.
The new electronic Computaform is a reality due in a few months time. At the moment Computaform is in Pdf formate and is useful to a few who use adobe and highlight on screen or make comments. I am sure there are other users that use the format as is but could probably count them on my hand. The new idea I understand is to basically build your own format with important information you are interested in. The best part for me is - Wait for It - .... if a meeting for example at Fairview is changed from the grass to poly due to rain - because all off this is electronic all the stats will change automatically and basically produce a new book on seconds. Wow that's going to be exciting and a game changer. Usually if that happens I would put my pen in my pocket and go for lunch at the local pub now I will change a play - yes right.
I presume with these changes that this is where their version of FG will come in from their data base. So it will be interactive. What amused me the other day is that the opperators are not fans of formgrids however support a new sales website in order to help sell horses. It is www.salesring.co.za . Its sponsored so far by CTS and Kuda . On the site a horse is displayed with a picture, a general description , a button to see the horses form should they have run . Guess what- that link is directly to FG to monitor the form. The other part of it will be with the sales companies any horses not sold or passed through the ring will be down loaded straight to the sight for prospective buyers to contact the breeders to negotiate.
My biggest problem with all these upgrades and great ideas are that they are all being targeted to a small amount of people. The majority with data costs these days will never have access to any of this information. With the additional proposal that nobody likes to stand in a queue to bet and that everyone has a smart phone to whip out and place a bet. I think they are in dream land. It might work in Hong Kong but it will never in my life time work here. The East has the fasted growing Middle class - South Africa is in a recession. Their aim here is to get everyone on an electronic platform and down size totes to save on costs . Can never work rather spend the money improving totes and service delivery because that is where your majority of customers are.
I was speaking to someone last week although not confirmed . The powers have spent if I remember correctly R5 million on Racing it's a Rush so far. And what have we got from that . Nothing .... Makes you think .
