Durbanville 2017

I believe it is entirely appropriate to commend the operator for the re-modelling of the Durbanville racecourse surface.

From being a venue which I never visited and also one which I always strongly resented having any horse in my ownership race at it has been transformed into an entirely acceptable (albeit still quaint) racing venue.

Early results from the venue suggest that draws beyond 8 are no longer the kiss of death whilst long striding gallopers are also no longer terminally prejudiced by the formerly undulating and injury inducing home stretch.

It seems feasible that the heavy racing load which has, in recent years, fallen almost exclusively upon Kenilworth could be shared more equitably with the 'country course'.

It would not surprise me to see, at least, a Grade 3 race or better staged there.

I fully agree. Ive watched both meetings and i must say that even from this far away the course looks awesome.

would be nice to have G2's or G1's such as the Fillies and Cape Guineas maybe which used to be at Milnerton in years gone by. Durbanville has a lot of potential as a venue and racing hub - scenic, and surrounded by wine farms if they can get the hospitality offer right. Wonder what the new developments in terms of buildings will deliver.

In the 1990's Empress Club beat Marie Galante and Taban over a 1000m sprint breaking the course record in the process at Durbanville.

On 07 October 2017, two Grade 3s will be run at Durbanville, The Matchem Stakes and The Diana Stakes. Gold Standard holds an entry in the Matchem Stakes.
