Good memories. Hawkins was a very good caller....didn't try at all to be the main attraction.

One of my top five horses of all time. Just loved watching him .

I dont think I ever missed a race of him live at the course win loose or draw. Followed him like a stalker :)

Dont we just love champions - Champions make Horse Racing .

And that imo is the main reason why owners have dwindled, more than politics, incompetence and all other factors combined - risk vs reward totally out of kilter nowadays :(

For me the Cap worn by G Hawkins in those days is the cap he has worn with the utmost distinction. What a commentator he was simply awesome. Now the caps aren't so lekker...

Clyde in the 2nd video also different class.
