You have to phone in and cancel if you take a bet online. I never had a problem cancelling a tote bet with bookmakers or with Gold Circle (Tabgold).

Where is that tote rule displayed and since when is it valid?
The only tote rule about canceling tickets that I know about is - no canceling of tickets is allowed

.....from time to time one does make the odd boo boo as far as exotics are concerned while playing on line.....in these cases I phone up TAB and cancel bets so it is allowed
.....last night there was no time to even make a call or worse hit the key board fast enough to take any cover bets.....what we need is consistency as often when a fav is scratched at the start they have a delay for bets to be restructured....and last night not.....did my P6 in as I did not have enough cover.....and had I had the time would have put field in a cover JP.... :angry:

What can Chris van Niekerk do about it? - Nothing

Its way out of his hands - Infact he is part of the problem in a small way.

My opinion is that what happened last night is due to the starter doing his job. There is no hard and fast rule anywhere that says that they must give a Five minute break in order to let punters change or adjust their bets. That is where the problem lies. It all started with the operators being curtious to the punters by allow them time in order to avoid conflict etc.

The NHA rules relating to the delaying of a start of a race are as follows:

The starter shall ensure that HORSES are not kept at the start after the time advertised for
the start except:-

* for the purpose of replacing defective equipment;
* to repair a defective stall or to replace a defective bank of starting stalls;
* to enable a suitable RIDER appointed in terms of RULE 55.2 to arrive at the start;
* to allow the RACE COURSE to be cleared of any obstructions;
* for the veterinary examination of a HORSE;
* with the permission of the RMR, or ROR or the SB, to provide for any other exigencies which may arise

Running a race on time has been drummed into the heads of the starters because of International TV rights , the basic rule there is that should your race as scheduled not be run on the time allocated they just move on overseas . Therefore no turnover overseas and no commission or cut for the operators Phum International,

Therefore the starter is stuck between a rock and a hard place. And the local punter has no say.

This is my take on what is happening or what happened.

That covers the situation of hot fav out so time to let your CUSTOMERS alter their bets

To which permission was obviously not granted - It is at the operators digression .

There is still no rule and that is the problem . The NHA will never put a rule in place such as that for the sake of the customer over the operators.

Millions is spent by the industry world wide in the attempt to gain new customers,, this is a priority, what's the use of spending millions then defeating your own efforts to rebuild cuatomer confidence, it becomes another waste of time and mone,, the Customer must be priority and all decisions must consider him,, you are all here because of the Customer,, this is just something that has to be drummed into the Heads of all decision makers, this industry is divided from within, too many bosses running their own sectors without proper uniformity, all doing as they please,, example Formgrids is used by thousands of punters and proffesionals who depend on it from within the industry yet its declared a swear word at Tellytrack which is part of Phumelela and Gold Circle and the channel feeds bookmakers who all benifit from turnover which Formgrids boosts

every single punter on the planet should be united on this matter. Yet the infighting and personal agendas that divide us are counted on to conquer us.

You are pretty correct Mr A.

We all think we are important , The Punter - The Owner - The Farrier - The Feed Companies .

Bottom line Racing in SA is run and controlled by Television full stop and the rights there of.

Example - Phum or WC racing - cant remember which one - get something around a Million Rand every Wednesday to show Singapore Racing . Money in their pocket and it costs a couple of rand to show and have staff at Telly Track.

On the same day they have a Kenilworth meeting where they have to run the show, pay employees , put up with punters complaints etc.

Which one would you worry about if you were Phum. Its all about the bottom line.

It is a very sick business model to me and you but to the shareholders its great. What gets to me even more is when our country is in trouble and the Rand goes to levels as such as today , that is a great day for the operators because they get paid in Foreign exchange . Yet we will have to pay R30 for a loaf of bread.

Not sure what the answer is , we have laid our bed many years ago and now we must lie in it. However trying or speaking to a person that holds millions of Phum shares is not going to solve your problem.
