The NHA is a lame duck
7 years 5 months ago - 7 years 5 months ago
Yesterday afternoon I posted a thread about the old South African flag and why people thought it was a problem that some people still want to display it. The post was deliberately vague and I wanted to see what the reaction to this posting was. Now let me be very clear about my feelings about that flag, I abhor it. It represents something evil from our past, and those that support it and wish for the "good old days" to return, clearly have little to add to our rainbow nation. There is no place for them in our society if we want this democracy, with all its faults, to prosper. The post was on for a short time and then it was pulled. Initially I was irritated because it did not get the responses that I was hoping for, but on reflection, well done to Bob or Dave, they did exactly the right thing, and removed something that was offensive and detrimental to this forum. They regulated.
Now let's get to the reason I threw out my red herring yesterday. Why is it that the NHA currently allow Mayfair Speculators to race their horses unhindered? It is a shameful situation. Those colours represent a man that will go down as the largest corporate con-artist in South African history. Every time I see a horse run in those colours, I taste the bile at the back of my throat and wonder how this can be allowed. It is offensive to me, and I am sure it is offensive to thousands of other South Africans who will be affected by this mans greed and dishonesty. A regulator who was in control, would have suspended Jooste horses from running during this period before he goes to jail for his crimes. At some stage people with Jooste horses are going to burn and who will be held responsible then? The NHA have done nothing but sit on their hands.
Jooste has shown that he continues to be devious by handing in his personal colours. That magnanimous action in the face of adversity affected none of his horses, as they all race in Mayfair colours, or in partnership using the Mayfair privilege. This raises another compliance issue that the NHA must answer to. Jooste has resigned. His son-in-law who is the only member of Mayfair now, does not hold a privilege with the NHA, so who in fact does Brugman represent as the nominee? The answer is he represents either Jooste or Mayfair regardless of what the NHA think, and neither of whom are licenced so the scenario falls foul of NHA rules. To illustrate my point, what would happen if something happened with the Mayfair horses that required regulation? Who would be held accountable? It's a situation that requires the regulator to regulate and protect the interests of the industry. Clearly the NHA are not capable, or are conflicted, and cannot fulfill their mandate in this regard.

It seems to me that the NHA cannot make decisions on its own or is incapable of doing so.
Jooste was a Director of Phumelela and resigned. I also read that Phumelela funds the NHA.
What about the Racing Trust who owns 35% of the Phumelela shares ? Who administers that ?
Should the Gambling Board not get involved ?

I agree that the NHRA is a regulator that is clueless. Its CEO knows nothing about horse racing and is more interested in himself than the sport. Most of the people employed by the NHRA would not be able to get a job in the real world. They are underqualified and work in a sheltered environment where not a single NHRA employee has ever been fired for poor performance or any other labour wrong. There is no hope for the sport with such people who are in control of regulating.
The operators and the RA are smiling all the way. They enjoy dealing with the inept NHRA.
The Steinhoff fraud has been the opportunity for the NHRA to show its worth. The NHRA may have received a legal view that it cannot stop the sale of Jooste and Mayfair Speculators. This does not mean that it is prevented from doing what is right and protecting the sport. It needs to act in the interests of the sport as a whole and not one man. For too long Jooste has ruled the roost. The leap must be taken to stop all Mayfair Speculators horses from running or being sold until the liquidation case has been finalised. As sure as god made apples, Mayfair Speculators will be liquidated and then we will really see the misery caused by the NHRA for not acting faster. The legal view will not save the NHRA from being sued a d Lyndon Barends from giving evidence at an unwuiry about the NHRA's incompetence.
Go the NHRA website and see its financials. The regulators are paid a handsome salary. 3 of the top management leave the NHRA in the past fiscal year and oddly salaries are increased for the remainder of management with R300 000 plus the salaries of the top management that left and were not replaced.

I think you are correct in your summary , and many other posting here.
The problem I am seeing where we are going wrong is " It is offensive to me, and I am sure it is offensive to thousands of other South Africans who will be affected by this mans greed and dishonesty."
Where are the Thousands, maybe a few hundred , that have ethics and understand . The rest just domt get it . The man has distroyed thousands of lives , purchased horses will ill gotton gains , yet we get people like Craig that want to clap hands to the MJ supporters and financiers that are buying his horses.
The banks want to collect as much as they can , well news for them they are going to get a fraction of the total worth. This has become a joke, I can not understand as a bank that they would not stop the boat and seek advice , without giving Brugman free reign in selling off the stock. This smacks of the mining company Aurora liquidation where by the time they got there , the cupboard was empty and people are still today suffering and living at the mines waiting for their pay cheque.

Not sure where your coming from Warren, Craig who?
The message I got lastnight (from a ususally good source) after I posted about Brugman was that he is in fact working for “the banks” now recovering as much as possible from the sale of horses.
Think he got 700k for Lobo, which is going to the bank
If it’s true then I’m sure all deals being done now are being scrutinised?
Remember racing people are also affected! And the problem they are facing now is will the Phoenix rise one day? The amount of WC folk in particular that I’ve seen show support on SM posts etc is actually boggling

Thanks Bob.
This is a very complicated situation. I still believe there are only a few hundred if that , now minus one as I think I am going to keep my opinion to myself .
The day I am asked to trust the racing system with the likes of Brugman , Larry and co , then it is time to keep quite.
Holidays are over time to go back to work and earn an honest living.

Bob,
You have taken off more than one of my previous posts. In all probability one or more were to offensive or not based on fact. I respect your decisions.
You now say that Brugman is working for the banks and you received it from a good source. Take it from me as your current source the banks have not have employed Brugman and your statement can be really damaging to those who rely on it. I suggest that you re-word your previous post.
Let me take it a bit further, if Brugman is working for the banks, he can no longer be acting as manager and nominee of Mayfair Speculators. If Brugman is working for the banks, this is the perfect opportunity for the NHRA to step in and fix the bs that is going on.

Aha Grant Knowles. Now that is a story in itself. Pity that certain people who I know are reluctant to go public about his antics. The whole story with confirmed facts will come out. It is a matter of time. Grant knows it all will have his day of reckoning.
