Jeff Lloyd's son joins SAJA

Jaden Lloyd, the son of former South African champion jockey Jeffrey Lloyd, has joined the South African Jockeys Academy at Summerveld. Apparently there isn't one in Australia.

Thank you Lionel, so where does the jockeys from Australia come from if there is no jockey academy?

With David Ferraris' son also in SA it speak volumes for the excellent facilities and mentors we have down at Summerveld.

Proudly South African!

I wonder why we deny locals the opportunity and allow foreigners in? With all due respect time and money should be spent on those that will stay in SA not those that will leave after their indentures are completed.

Also true OTA, maybe the SAJA should look to enter into an agreement whereby the jocks should stay in SA for a certain period of time after completion of their training and not just allow them to leave immediately.

If they were on bursaries then by all means, add in a clause that states they need to pay their dues on South Africas tracks for x time.

But if they're on their own dime then they can ply their trade wherever the hell they like once their apprenticeships are completed.

I have horsie that still has a way to go improving as he goes...but if I had one that cud run the JULY I would pay any amount to bring Lloyd to ride, why cant we get owners or trainers to bring in legends to achieve the goals or races that eludes them, Lloyd has been a soldier for SA racing winning the July will be fantastic....Muis did it ...so can Lloyd if given the chance

If you believe the trainers in KZN they think the Academy is pants atm

They probably would have been better sending him to the UK or Ireland

We have too many riders at present so if the Academy survives because of foreign prospects then good for Racing - I believe that the requirements to enter should be amended - Matric or equivalent and minimum age 18 - Stricter rules need to be applied - We don't need to destroy youngsters who patently have no ability to ride - So if they are battling either with weight or aptitude after 2 years rather cut them loose and if they still have a desire to be involved in Racing broaden the Maree workriders program to include an Assistant Trainer program so that their passion can still be fed and an Industry standard maintained
