Summer Pick 6 Pay out?
7 years 6 months ago
Guys the pick six Pay out was rather tame in what I saw as a mixed bag of results..when considering it was just short of an 8 million pool.
Race 4 - Magical Wonderland was all the rage, on even money....and the stable 4th horse in the betting at 8 - 1 wins. Many tipsters were preaching the fav can be an early banker and undefeated over distance etc.
Race 5 - Cot Cambell went almost to even money as well when Talk of the Town got scratched, Vacquero and Dynamic Diana were next best....in the betting prior to the pick 6 starting with Undercover Agent trading at around 9 - 1 at the time. It did come in to 3rd fav as Cot Cambell drifted at the jump.
Race 6 - I can understand.....Search Party, Naafer, Sergeant Hardy all in as the fav won when the other 2 got scratched. Hardest race of the card....so around 7 - 8 horses were needed just to cover the 4 -1 to 8- 1 spectrum of the betting.
Race 7 - Eyes Wide Open was easy to back at 5-1 for most of the day, with many going for tap o noth as a good thing, with only white river to really challenge as the KZN early form of Eyes Wide Shut was not deemed to be strong. It wins and again the 2 fav runners don't make the frame.
Race 8 - champion stuff no need to unpack.
Race 9 - with all of Legal Eagle, Marinaresco, Captain America, African Night Sky, Last Winter and Oh Sussana all in the betting from 3 -1 to 8 - 1 you could not leave anyone out. I know the full attracted money, but it wasnt straight forwarded from a pick 6 perspective...as she is a 3 year old, against the best older males in the country, without a run over the distance before. She was at a low weight....but the normal punter would go with a few horses in the main race.
In summary the pick 6 laid R6900 on day of just under 8 million in pool, with 2 8-1's winning when 2 1-1 money shots in those those races. 2 5- 1's win in what was competitive racing and not the top 2 in the betting, and in the case of the Met more than 5 or 6 horses would of been added.

I wast trying to work it out all day, worst payout in history. When Dutch Philip won I thought it would be paying around 13 rand , as you beat a banker everyone was obsessed with in a carry over pool.

Couldn't agree more with you guys. I played 2 Perms, one banker MW and the other took a few horses. For a R2000 outlay, I ended up at a loss of R300. Actually made a decent profit on the 2nd Pick6 which paid R178611.60. I hope they keep this one on big days
