I'm sure some other trainers also were fined in the past - could be a Cape trainer?

It's from Manpower - There have been deaths when people fall off horses without a skull cap- I see no problem with this

No ways a groom died last year at a stable in CPT from a fall.

If you are the employer you dont want to go there.

I had a new girlfriend and she was into riding and took me to the stables. I had never ridden a horse. She had a couple of ex race horses and I was keen to ride. So she saddled me up and off I went with her in tow. The horse that I was on did not want to know and just walked very slowly. Do we changed over. Big mistake. Within a minute of me on this horse it just took off. As I had never ridden before I had no idea of what to do to make this thing stop. It must have been a minute or so before I fell off breaking my forearm in three places. I had no skull cap on so consider myself very lucky that I did not hit my head on the ground even though it was on a beach. I had pins and plates inserted into my arm which are still there today. Horse riding can be dangerous and even more so horse racing. Big respect for the jockeys and when they real that the ground is not safe to race on just believe them instead of cursing them.

Is it a case of not providing the proper gear?

Providing, training and enforcing...lot's of accountability lies on the employer as per OHS Act I'm afraid.

Same story with me, don’t know how to ride. Many, many moons ago I got onto an old horse as part of a riding party. The horse walked like a donkey and then suddenly bolted and kept bolting when I started to slide off and I hit the ground. The only difference with me is that I did not have a new girlfriend.
