Foreign raider in the July?
7 years 3 months agoWings Of Desire's connections are to consider running him in the Vodacom Durban July Handicap at Greyville before he takes up stud duties at Heversham Park Farm in South Africa later this year.
Trained by John Gosden in Britain for owner-breeder Lady Bamford to win the Group 2 Dante Stakes at York on only his third start in 2016, Wings Of Desire was purchased by Heversham Park in December, in a deal brokered by bloodstock agent Richard Venn.

They are taking a risk. What happens if he is entered and runs unplaced?..Breeders are reducing their stock and wont use him if he fails against our Crop.

maybe a PR stunt? A better approach would be to send the horse to a KZN based trainer rather than send to Mr Ferraris(he is a top trainer no doubt) Why move the horse to Gauteng just so that he can raid Greyville later? Better to send to Snaith, Kannemeyer or Crawford if you are serious about that race.

Interesting you would imagine if Highland Reel was racing it would be money on for the July and if all goes to plan with a rather ordinary field it could well start fav and win ?
Tough call but certainly adds another bit spice to the July

Would need to do some serious winning in SA before being allowed to run

That's just it....... he doesn't. The fancy gold circle people can invite whomever they want to participate in this race.
Unless I don't understand their rules properly?
