All the best easy im to old now to do what you doing as owners today arent what they used to be ...as for her barrier trial the horse salubrious who ran 2 lengths off her ran today at scotsville and ran 15 lengths off the winner in race 2 however i dont follow the barrier trials as in my opinion the way they are done is not the way they should be doneand will be counterproductive for punters but thats another topic altogether

my reason for showing the barrier trial is to highlight she is real and runs pretty soon. I also think they a waste of time.

That is sharp, Muhtiman, very sharp !
Not sure about how others feel but i liken it to going to the casino to play blackjack, take my hard earned money and playing behind someone else's box.

Re: Surcharge
7 years 6 months agoAlfa'shave played a huge part in my gambling history - I won a Jackpot for R8 at 18 that paid around R1400 - I wanted to buy a second-hand Alfa Export 1500 which to my young mind was the closest to a chick magnet on my budget - The car cost around R4k I think so being naive I pit the lot on a talking horse to win the Nursery - Horse ran 4th and I would have got very close had I rather taken places.. I learn't big lessons -easy wrote: @ mac

Then years later I bought one as a project car - It never ran or started and after about a year I sold it at a loss - a month later the new owner had it running!!
I learn't some valuable lessons from Mussolini's revenge -
Control your bank and back with your head not your heart and don't buy the car before the race has run!
If you own a horse and you are battling to get it run well sometimes it's best to either sell it or to move it to a trainer(mechanic) that knows what he's doing.
If you decide you want to buy a horse first buy an Alfa and if you can survive the constant breakdowns and expensive services and still get a kick out of driving it then you are ready for the ups and downs of Racing - (but if you decide to buy a horse sell the Alfa first - having both is like having 2 ex-wives with Billy Gundelfinger on speed-dial)
Another good guide is that aesthetically many Alfas look great but under-perform so don't make looks the decider when buying a horse.
And just because Ferrari is also an Italian car does not mean that a horse you buy that is somehow related to Horse Chestnut will suddenly turn from Alfa to Ferrari...

Mr Hawaii
agree 100% she could turn out to be a dud.
My point is and always will be to bring people in to the game i refuse to fleece them.
So facts are facts she is related to Surcharge
and in theory is now worth more than when she was bought
yet we will not mark her up.

Personally if I was game for another horse I would take a share here and I said just that to a mutual friend - I like the "motor plan" where for 2 years you reasonably well covered and the fact hat she has already been taken out for a test-drive

the "motor" plan is how its mostly done here in the UK.
It just makes it easier to go through lean times and never puts the syndicate in a position to have to find funds.
Look at it like this , simple math.
Lets say there is a syndicate business and they run 100 horses with shares as low as 5% and on a monthly debit order.
Personally i think its great to bring people in for 5% for the ride. But if you can only buy in because its "only R500" a month then there is risk. Especially when that person ends up with anther 5% and another 5%.
So you ed up with 100 horses with potentially 2000 owners ( at 5%) but there is always cross over and bigger %'s so you might end ups tin 100 horses and 400 owners.
Already that is an admin nightmare every month to collect funds.
now what happens if a mere 10% of owners don't pay for 1 month? You might sue them or even chuck them out the syndicate but the horses still need to eat!!
its too risky.
SO our model is simple. Pay the 2 years and chillax. Stakes paid out quarterly and everyone happy.
