Petra won by 3.5 lengths and no betting coup with the information out there for punters. Little Winter is obviously above average and once again the information is out there for the punters.

I still believe we have a way to go with the trials but at least this is a start.

On Winning Ways, Laff and The Good said, for the first time and as a consequence of the barrier trials, an unraced runner was tipped by the press and win he did. Can’t remember the runner ?

Is the intention to program more trials - because for this coming Sunday there were already more than 30 noms - can only increase as more juveniles get ready to race - looks like it may soon be more difficult to get into a trial than into a race

With effect from 1 March 2018, Barrier Trials were made compulsory in KZN for all first time runners and runners that have been off the course for a period of 150 days and longer.

Basic information on the trials, such as time recorded and lengths behind the ‘winner’ of the trials is carried in the Gold Circle racecard, Computaform and other relevant formguides.

However, in an effort to make the Barrier Trials punter friendly and to provide more detailed information, Gold Circle has appointed a team of seasoned ‘race readers’ to give their opinion on each trial.

They will comment on and assess the performances of individual participants as a guide to punters.

It is hoped that this initiative will lead to further transparency regarding first timers and prove to be a valuable aid for punters.

Each Barrier Trial will be archived and comments can be accessed on the Gold Circle website at www.goldcircle.co.za/racing/barrier-trials/

Seemingly they don’t get paid for the Barrier Trials so don’t get fined

Seemingly the 150 days is because there is not enough trials

why should they be they have 70 seconds to run the 1000metres in which is exactly my point and others either have it like a proper race or dont have it all because not everyone can watch them and believe me i have seen many a horse come off the bridle and have fuckall left to come ...

Horses were carded to race last week.

Meeting was cancelled due to the grooms strike.

3 things.

1 ) Its a public training gallop. If you have the interest ,and the eye to spot good, bad or indifferent work or potential they are another piece of information that can make up your mind on risk.

2) If you dont watch them, they are of little value other than the comments of people who have watched them

3) If you dont watch them, your opinion of their usefulness is invalid
