Why would one?
16 years 11 months ago
Today,as it was Thursday, I wandered up the village to get my weekly fruit and veg and a nice steak n kidney pie for this evening. As one must have a stop over not only at the pub for a quick pint of the old brew a pit stop at the local bookies is a must. Well as I opened the door and gazed down toward the counter there she was sitting alone as usual on a Thursday sitting on the same chair and at the same table as her and her Vic used to sit for many many a year. Joyce is not looking to good these days, mind many years ago she was a looker allright. I think losing Vic in those strange circumstances 6 years ago must be getting at her as each day passes us by. Let me share the sad yet funny story with you all if I may. Vic was always a couple of quid race man. He did not have a great job but he earned enough to own his own house and see to it that his beloved Joyce did not have to work although she did have a little job in the local newsagents two mornings a week. I think that the money she earned at the newsagent was put away for the day that Vic passed on.
Well one Saturday Vic placed a bet on a 50/1 horse. He went "big" in his words on this horse. The name of the horse escapes me now. Well Vic placed a fiver on the nose. Vic did have his fair share of winners, winning 50 quid thesre and 60 here. Never a nice win. He also took a two pound double with his 50/1 bet and if they came in he would collect 250 from the single bet and about 600 from the double.
They both won. The sad thing is that Vic was watching the running on Channel 4 on that particular Saturday afternoon. With all the excitement of his bet coming home Vic collapsed and sadly passed on with a suspected heart attaack. He had the tickets in his hand. Now the funny part is that Joyce has to this day not cashed the winning tickets in believing that when her Vic comes back he will have a fresh start in life. Us oldies are weird. So today there she was and her first words to me as they always are "oi Chunky do you remember when me Vic died and he won? Well i still have the winning tickets in my purse" Joyce only plays the dogs in the mornings, each race the same forecast and tricast. 2-1-6. Maybe one day they will all come home for her and she can see her beloved Vic again.

Chunky you should write a novel on your life. The little that you have posted is very interesting and amusing. Keep them coming.

Scotia i thank you for the kind offer but Turfontein, i presume that is the track that you are referring to, is a long long way away for an old fart as myself. I doubt if British Airways will take a chance boarding me on one of their flights to South Africa as I am known to over indulge at the best of times, mind you it kicks me so much quicker these days. Maybe if you come over to the South of England then i can take you to a couple of my favourite tracks and we can have a tipple or two.
