I asked him which of all the winners that we had had during the year gave him the most pleasure. Expecting him to say one of the group races we had won, I was very surprised when he said a filly called Cuddly toy. She eventually won a bad maiden at a small track. I asked why and he said the top horses have the ability and are easy to train. Feed them well, get them fit and keep them sound. They do the rest. A bad horse really makes you work hard as it has very little ability but to win with one like that gives you a huge amout of satisfaction.

Without mentioning names there are certain trainers that I admire who have coaxed 9 wins out of a horse that really never looked like winning more than a Maiden - But I have seen some trainers(maybe through pressure from owners) enter average horses in Features as 3 yr olds and these poor horses end up broken as they race maybe 5 races out of class and perhaps find a MR rise because of a dirty 4th - A bad trainer can stop a GOOD EARNER by aiming for the sky instead of the bank(as I said before though I think many times owners pressure these moves)

Pity they are stuck with the kak poly mostly but all are good trainers. Monks Hood would give her a run for her life but I hope they all wisely placed for the season and stay healthy and sound. Some great racing ahead! Gordon also had a lovely filly Thatch Attack who was classy and raided JNB with success!

Thanks for reminding us about Thatch Attack. I remember her...was very quick.
Wasn't there one with a similar name that was trained by D Goss.
