Snow Dance vs Monkshood

Would be a dream match race over a mile, sure they will bump into each other in KZN
Who wins? Colt or Filly ?

In Kzn, with our run ins (assume they will meet at Greyville), not enough time for Monkshood to reach Snowdance....

Imo Monkshood will win. Alistair Gordon said Monkshood is still maturing.

I know that i will back any cape horse that finished in the 1st 6 in the cape guineas to beat monks hood in any race over 1600m anywhere in rsa.that is my opinion of course and i will stand by it.kzn racing and horses are just too bad to be taken seriously imo.snow dance is a dual gr1 winner against fillies so i don't see how you can mention her with a kzn bred and trained horse who won a gr2 in jhb.

Winzip, Monks Hood is not KZN bred. Bred in EC. He beat the best Jhb had to offer going a half pace. IMHO Snow Dance was not nearly as impressive in her last win as I expected her to be. She beat fillies but had to be worked on to do it. Her stable companion on the day was far more impressive in the Met. Alistair Gordon is a top class trainer and just needs the horse. Brer Rabbit, Extra Cover, Mautirzfontein and my favourite ( best horse I have evrr worked with) Scarlet Lady to nsme a few attest to Alistair's training ability.

I have to agree with Craig. Top trainer and top horse. Anyone is only as good as the horses they have. I think Drier, Howells and now Gordon have all proved this in recent years. Pity they are stuck with the kak poly mostly but all are good trainers. Monks Hood would give her a run for her life but I hope they all wisely placed for the season and stay healthy and sound. Some great racing ahead! Gordon also had a lovely filly Thatch Attack who was classy and raided JNB with success!

what i don't understand is :
a field of 10 runners over straight 1600m with starting stalls positioned in the middle.
all have had 20 starts
all are rated 72
all have won 3 races over 1600m
how come repeatedly the same trainers horses run last......

Maybe if we think on Authors, some have only one story to tell and that book might be a best seller , others have many books in print but only friends and family bother to read them while a select few consistently top the best sellers list year after year - They all have intellect and a passion for writing but not all have the ability to tell a good story... It's the way of the world - Just like IQ's - Only 2% of people can qualify for Mensa regardless of the schools' they attended or the financial backing they have received - Just like punters that consistently win/lose or those that once in a lifetime strike one excellent bet - It's nature and the politically correct approach to award every child in a class some sort of achievement certificate does not work in Racing (or in most aspects of life) - For me a top trainer(even jocks placing a horse in a race) does hot have to have champions in his yard but has the ability to place his horses correctly to maximize their ability without handicapping the out of earnings - Getting a horse to win 5 to 10 or more races when that horse has never seen a MR rating more than 82 is the sign of a good trainer for me -

Mr H, when I worked in England for William Haggas, we had an end of the year dinner for the head lads/ladies and assistant. I asked him which of all the winners that we had had during the year gave him the most pleasure. Expecting him to say one of the group races we had won, I was very surprised when he said a filly called Cuddly toy. She eventually won a bad maiden at a small track. I asked why and he said the top horses have the ability and are easy to train. Feed them well, get them fit and keep them sound. They do the rest. A bad horse really makes you work hard as it has very little ability but to win with one like that gives you a huge amout of satisfaction.
