ARE NATAL TRAINERS PAYING FOR NOMINATIONS ?
7 years 2 months ago - 7 years 2 months ago
why I ask, is that I have a filly nominated & she drew 59 / 63 for a Greyville meeting.
IF nominations are being paid - fair enough.... IF NOT, that then explains why the nomination fields are soo BIG !!
OR it clearly shows one that there are NOT enough races for horses in this particular division.
Last run, we ran drawn 12 -12 - in a race far shorter than she should run in. But it beats standing in the stable all day, & she did earn a stake check.
now we find the CORRECT DISTANCE - & we are drawn 59 / 63 ........ what chance have we got running at GREYVILLE with their cut up fields..... not even 5 % I'm sure.
need answers please, & the powers that be wonder why it is so hard it introduce NEW OWNERS into the game

Hi ElvisK. Yes we do. What type of race is it? There are normally quite a lot of scratchings so could get lucky

If there are enough acceptors then there is a chance it could be split.

Elvis
I agree with you in that it is very frustrating. However, I had similar issues in Gauteng and speaking to Trainers from other centres around the Country, it is the same everywhere.
One just has to stick it out...
And then sometimes when you find the right race, there are too few acceptors and you lose the race. For today's meeting, we looked forward to the race where Winter Blues would meet La Ferrari again. We lost the race as there were only 5 Acceptors. We cannot blame the Operators, thats just Racing....
Also, today we run Mbali over the 1400m turf track. We are putting this filly in this race to get to know the surface, as we would like to try get into the Umzimkulu Stskes (gr3) on 8th April, over the course and distance. We run from draw 9 out of 9 runners, against the colts. This is a very tough ask and we cannot afford her to run badly today, if we have any hope of getting in on 8th. She was weighted to carry 53,5kg in the weights for today so Gunther could not do the weight. However, due to the top weights coming out, weights moved up and Gunter already had another ride...
Thats racing....

@lg - many thanks for your always valued input and insights - as a punter, we only see what is presented to us and not the 99% not in in sight - a bit like the ice-berg - so your information is greatly appreciated in getting a more informed perspective of the industry

thanks LG, in general I agree with you BUT - CPT racing seems to be the exception.
there is many a race card in CPT with 5 or 6 races consisting of 7 or 8 runners. I don't know why this is so.
Perhaps 4 or 5 BIG trainers with big strings - NOT wanting to race their own horses against each other. Durbanville was the exception yesterday - but generally in KENILWORTH the fields are SMALL.
The last KENILWORTH meeting was SATURDAY 03 mar - they had 4 races on the card of - 5,6,7,8, runners - THIS IS FOR A SATURDAY MEETING !! what gives ?
