TOP SIRES HIGHLIGHT HIGHLANDS NATIONAL DRAFT

Highlands Stud part of Ridgemont, perennially among South Africa’s leading breeders, will once again be offering an outstanding draft of yearlings at the 2018 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale at the end of April.

The draft includes yearling by such standout stallions as Dynasty, Duke Of Marmalade, Twice Over and Var, with Highlands’ own promising sires Jackson, Pathfork and Potala Palace also represented in the string.

The farm’s outstanding resident sire Dynasty has five well bred yearlings in the draft. The four times Equus Outstanding Stallion is responsible for Corvette Captain (Lot 11) –a half-brother to Equus Champion French Navy, who has earned over R5 million in prize money.

Another cracking Dynasty colt in the draft is It’s Complex (Lot 86), whose stakes placed dam is a half-sister to G1 winner and Highlands sire Potala Palace. Other Dynasty sired lots of interest is the full-brother to dual G1 winner Eyes Wide Open (Lot 193), the colt whose three time winning dam is a half-sister to the Fort Wood sired July winner Hunting Tower (Lot 387), and Wolfgang (Lot 389). The latter hails from the same family as Hong Kong G1 winner and multiple Equus Champion J J The Jet Plane.

Dynasty’s triple G1 winning son Jackson got off quickly with a winner from his early first 2yos, and Jackson has two colts in the draft. His son Leicester Square (Lot 146), is out of a 3 time winning half-sister to champion and outstanding broodmare First Arrival, while Jackson colt Hidden Legacy (Lot 197) is out of a stakes placed half-sister to British G1 winner Stradivarius, a leading contender for major races once again in 2018.

Highlands’ successful sire, and G1 winner, Pathfork has two in the draft –a full-brother to smart filly Via Sacra (Lot 314), and a colt out of a five time stakes winning daughter of champion sire and broodmare sire Fort Wood (Lot 427).

Singspiel’s G1 winning son Potala Palace has already had a stakes performer from his early 2yos, and the regally bred Potala Palace is responsible for Court Jester (Lot 379). This colt is out of a winning daughter of G2 winner Dance Along –a half-sister to champion Consensual (herself dam of champion Just Sensual).

Champion Sire of 2YOS last season, Var, is the sire of Ibra (Lot 25) –a daughter of Elusive Quality sired Flamboyant Stakes second Salsabeel, while European champion, and G1 sire, Twice Over is the sire of Morse (Lot 271) –a colt out of Fort Wood sired East Cape champion Short List.

Cartier champion, and classic sire, Duke Of Marmalade is the sire of a filly (Lot 518) whose dam is seven time stakes winner Pirate Lady, while G1 winner and G1 sire Seventh Rock is responsible for Aristarchus. The latter is a bay son of winning Giant’s Causeway mare Lunar Landscape, whose relatives include Australian G1 winners Lady Of The Pines and Caledonian Boy.

Highlands Stud graduates have once again been excelling this season, with their number including G1 Investec Cape Derby winner Eyes Wide Open and fellow graded winners Let It Rain and My Friend Lee.
