Nash Rawiller banned for 15 months
By Nick Hluchaniuk
Hong Kong Jockey Club stewards have dropped a bombshell on Wednesday with champion jockey Nash Rawiller disqualified for 15 months for placing bets on horses he rode.
Stewards found Rawiller guilty of having had an interest in bets on multiple occasions, with the bets having been facilitated by people known to him.
He was also charged with having accepted gifts or other considerations for providing tips in respect of horses he rode.
Rawiller was interviewed on Tuesday and again on Wednesday following a report provided by the Club's Security and Integrity Department.
The rider did not enter a plea to the charges.
Stewards handed down a 15-month disqualification under both charges, which will be served concurrently.
The ban will see Rawiller out of the saddle until 25 July 2019.
In deciding the penalty, stewards took into consideration that it was fundamental to the integrity of racing that jockeys were not permitted to bet or to have an interest in a bet
They also took into consideration that Rawiller had fully co-operated with the inquiry and had been forthright with his evidence.
Stewards said there was no evidence to suggest Rawiller had ridden any horse in Hong Kong with the intention other than to obtain the best possible placing for the horse.
Executive Director, Racing Authority Andrew Harding said the HKJC had an unwavering resolve to ensure the highest standards of integrity.
"The Club’s handling of this matter demonstrates the expert nature and strength of the Club’s systems for the prevention and detection of breaches of the Rules of Racing, and our unwavering resolve to ensure the highest standards of the integrity in Hong Kong racing,” Mr Harding said.
Rawiller made the move to ride in Hong Kong on a permanent basis back in 2014, having won multiple jockey premierships in Sydney.
He is third in the Hong Kong jockeys' rankings this season with 40 wins.

Lucky he got ban only. Chris Munce was given jailtime for almost same offence. Crooked game.

Chris Munce was found with suitcases of cash leaving to go back home!
Don’t think Nash’s evidence was as damning

It might get worse for Nash as rumors awash that he was detained at the airport while trying to leave Hong Kong. One can only imagine that the Independent Commission Against Corruption has now got involved, which would mean things go south (criminal charges and all).
Chris Munce served a fair chunk of his prison term and was later transferred to Sydney following a prisoner swap.
Was looking forward to Nash aboard Mr Stunning on Sunday. Sam Clipperton takes over.

Being found with cash was jus part of evidence which made authorities job bit easier but the offence (magnitude) is the same-jockey involved in betting.
